Advent Colander – Dec 4th

[Open the door / Close the door]

Our council is currently offering to put in free roof insulation for every house in the district. Which on the face of it is a fantastic offer, and when we heard about it we signed up to it immediately. We have a bit of lagging up in the attic already, but the man from the council told us that they could bung a couple of inches on top of it if we liked.

Unfortunately he then pointed out that in order to do that then we would have to clear all the crap out of the attic first. Suddenly the whole prospect became much less appealing.

While we have recently made moves to render our house fit for human habitation, the attic remains a horrendously chaotic jumble of baby toys, dead electrical equipment, and piles of Kerry’s wedding photography. Occasionally the hatch is opened in order that we can hurl yet another peice of debris onto the pile, but generally the place is treated like a no-mans-land where no mortal dares to tread.

To Amy of course it is a secret repository of toys; where, if she pesters hard enough, she is allowed to venture in order to gather long forgotten teddies, rattles, and baby books which both she and Evan have theoretically grown out of.

I had cause to go up there this afternoon on a hunt for a desk spotlight that I could use to replicate Clair’s rather wonderful photography. Unfortunately I couldn’t find one, but I did take a few photo’s whilst I was up there. Most of which were rubbish, but i was relatively pleased with this one.

I’ve never had an attic. But I’m sure if I had one it would be a catch all for all our crap as well.

I didn’t get the picture either. No matter–the new header was worth it all!

Those header photos – you’ve got make-up on in the right hand side one haven’t you ?

You can tell us, you’re among friends, we won’t tell anyone.

I’ve got the draft written already for my blog anyway…

I like that picture – I was expecting a view of the attic, so that was a pleasant surprise!
I daren’t venture into my attic – I’m pretty sure the insulation is made up of mice. Both living and dead.
It often sounds like they’re having a ceilidh or something up there, so I figure I’d best leave them to it.

James – Thanks. As you can see due to popular demand I’ve put it as my header.

Arjan – Since I changed my theme I’ve been having problems with images in firefox. I can’t work out why it’s happening as it works in safari.

VegasDad – Never had an attic? My advice is just to partition the top level of your house off and then use tyhat as one. sure, you’ll probably have nowhere to sleep, but sacrifices have to be made.

    Ed – It’s firefox I tell you. I can’t work out what’s wrong!

Gary – No makeup. I’m just naturally beautiful.

Oli – I’m glad someone can see the picture. Do the mice play fiddles and everything?

I’m one of those stubborn IE users..so it’s not working in IE either :(

I havent got it in Internet Exporer either. We havent opened the hatch to our attic yet (after 3 months of living here) this may be a new adventure for the weekend.

  • Dan says:

Arjan – I’ve worked out what it might be. I think there is something wrong with the jpg file as photoshop doesn’t seem to want to open it either. You’ll just have to take it from me that it is a truely magnificent photo.

I’ve started hosting my photos on my own server and this has ahppened with a couple of them now so i think they might be corrupting in some way. I’m going back to using flickr i think.

Sam – I’m sure with your yuppie neighborhood there will be a set of skis and an espresso machine up there

  • Dan says:

Right. fixed it. now you can all gaze on my wondrous photography skills once more.

  • Jeff says:

I just finished adding 2 feet of insulation to our attic and sealing up the trap door for the winter. Hopefully I didn’t leave anything important up there, like a kid or something, because there’s no way I’m opening it up again until next spring.
