It’s the first of December and so time to make my triumphant return to the blogosphere. So what’s happened in the Hughes household since you saw me last? Time for a lazy bullet list I think.

  • Amy had her fifth birthday and two separate fifth birthday parties.
  • Evan had two late night visits to A&E with breathing problems and one two night stay in hospital with pneumonia. I really don’t know where all these lung problems with our children are coming from.
  • I brought my guitar down from the attic and re-learnt the same 5 easy chords I used to know, then gave up again when it started becoming too hard.
  • I discovered that walking round Ikea the wrong way gives me travel sickness.
  • I lost another 11lb in weight, bringing the total up to 51lb lost since July. I crave big greasy pizzas.
  • I nearly finished nearly all our Christmas shopping.
  • I gave up on Battlestar Galactica half way through the third series.
  • I forced my next door neighbour Eric to go to the doctors after noticing his foot is so swollen he can no longer get his shoe on.
  • I haven’t got round to getting my laptop screen fixed yet
  • Evan developed a Peppa Pig fixation, while Amy’s obsession with high School Musical has grown into almost religious proportions.
  • Kerry continues to do project 365, although has tended to update her blog in sporadic bursts rather than day by day.
  • I tidied the lounge. It took me two entire days.
  • The final total raised by the Dales Walk has come in. It’s over six thousand pounds. Thank you to everyone who donated.
  • I fluctuated wildly from missing blogging desperately to vowing never to blog again. I think that I’m going to try and strike a happy medium between those two poles.

So now I’m back, and as it’s the first of December I thought I might as well reinstate last year’s advent colander. Unfortunately I haven’t yet given any thought to what the theme of it should actually be. Last year I focused on Kid’s TV merchandising, any requests/suggestions for this year?

Welcome baack Dan. Technically, it is the 30th here so you are back early. Balance is good though, as no one needs blog burnout. Ease yourself back into it slowly.

    What? You’ve been away?
Seriously, though, I can’t believe that country-livin’, SAHD, vegetarians that line-dry their laundry let their children warp their impressionable, fungible, malleable little minds with HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL! Don’t you know that crap is evil?

Welcome back! (Though you’re still right where you were…)

How about focusing on excessive consumerism? It *is* the true meaning of Christmas, after all.

    What? It isn’t?

    What she said.

They rebelled. They evolved. And they have a plan. And all you care about is your neighbor’s little foot problems? For shame!

good to see you’re back on track. A healthy break is far better than to be gone for ever. I was happy to see my rss of all that comes with it get bold again.

Of course we shouldn’t ask..but how skinny are you by now?
Do you have any non-tv related toys from ‘back in the day’ (advent thingie)?

Welcome back Mr Hughes. I’ve missed you. Everything I’ve had to read while you’ve been away has been provided by people I don’t actually know. Which isn’t as good.

Welcome back Dan – I’ve missed catching up with you all. I’ve been checking every so often during November… just in case you’ve given in and secretly blogged… just to keep us on our toes! Happy Birthday to Amy and hugs to Evan – glad he’s now back home again.

Sorry to hear the small ones have been poorly – hope they’re feeling better.

Re the advent colander – how about a diet based theme in honour of your successful weight-loss? There are enough faddy diets around to fill a years worth of advent colanders let alone a month!

    Welcome back!!
I did have 1 suggestion for the colander – 80’s toys & gadgets, simply because I saw this hilarious book in WHSmith recently full of stuff we played with back then. My kids now think I’m as old as a dinosaur!

I’m glad you’re back, but I’m sad that you didn’t stick through BSG. It has a slow period, but once it picks back up, it’s insane.

Casey – There are too many quality films, tv shows, comics and books out there for me to waist my two free hours an evening waiting for a dull show to get good again.

James – Blogging burnout was an imminent risk towards the end of October. I’m hoping i’ve done enough to stave it off.

JJ Daddy-O – Every child needs a little evil in their life.

Rattling the Kettle – I thought it was drinking until your liver bleeds?

Jo – A good idea but I’ve settled on something that doesn’t require me to think about stuff too much. Not thinking is good.

    Whit – Thank you sir.

People in the sun – I’ve switched allegiances to watching Babylon 5. I challenge anyone to say that BSG is better than that.

Brandon – For some strange reason that makes me feel rather seedy.

Arjan – I’m still not skinny, but I’m definitely skinnier. Just another 28lb to go

Oli – Sorry i missed you when you were in Hudds this past month, but as you know various things came up.

Helen – I was tempted to sneak a blog now and then, but I remained strong.

Rol – Blimey, give me a chance!

Little Brown Book – I think i might come up with a faddy diet of my own. The gravel and chick-pea diet.

Holmes – Many people throughout my entire life have often asked “what the hell happened to Dan”

Penelope – I came very close to doing an 80’s toy thing, mainly because I wanted to wax lyrical about how wonderful Big-Traks were.

Avitable – As I said to Casey, life’s just too short and my LoveFilm DVD rental queue is just too long. Kerry’s still sticking with it though, so I do catch the odd glimpse of it periodically.

Congrats on the extra weight loss. Shame you bailed on BG though – it does get so much better. Still, I can totally relate. I have far too many things DVR’d at home waiting for me to watch than I can honestly keep up with. Time to prune the list myself I think.

AMAZING job on the weight loss! I was thinking I should get back on track and the vids are good inspiration/motivation but I seem like a fraud doing weight loss themed video segments when compared to people like you. I have lost 20 net from this time last year.

PG – Thanks. I’m not entirely sure why it’s worked this time rather than all the other times i’ve attempted it. Probably because I just got into a mindset I suppose. It helps that I was so heavy in the first place and so my metabolism was pretty high what with having to lug my own weight around.
