Pause

November is NaBloPoMo. Or at least it used to be until the organizers got a little drunk with the power of it all and decided to make every month NaBloPoMo, which in my view has basically killed it.

I participated last year, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I posted every single day of November and was pretty proud of myself for doing so. It’s good to force the creativity sometimes; it takes you in directions you hadn’t thought of before.

But often forcing it can be damaging too. It can cause rips, tears, and general discomfort. And sometimes, when you look at what you’ve produced you’re not particularly proud of it.

I’ve been forcing it for a while now. Probably since the end of the walk back in July.

So instead of posting every day of November I’m going to not post every day of November. I’m going to watch some films, read some books, and get a bit more sleep instead.

This isn’t a proclamation that I’m quitting. I’m going to be back in December. I’m just going to have a bit of a break so when I come back my blog movements will be a little more fluid. I’m still going to be around other people’s blogs too, although perhaps not quite as much as I have been. I’ll still be answering email ( dghughes28(at)yahoo.co.uk ) and hanging around instant messaging (AIM username: dghughes28 ) so feel free to look me up.

And don’t forget, you can still get a daily dose of life in the Hughes household over at my wife Kerry’s blog: CeleryJam.com.

See you in December.

You took the red pill didn’t you (or was that the blue pill?) Anyhow, see you after you have fully experienced the real world for a while.

Have they put something in the water? Seems a lot of folk are having blogging breaks.

I think it’s because Santa is bringing you a new laptop and you have to wait and be a very very good boy until then!

have i just wasted my time replying if you aren’t going to read or respond to it?

I find that if I use lots of lube, I’m able to force it pretty easily with very little pain.

It’s a great idea – sometimes it can feel more of an obligation than a joy and that definitely means its time to take a break.

We’ll miss you, for sure, but as someone that has taken a month off once, I can tell you that it really is refreshing, though it was kind of hard to come back.

The idea of taking a month-long break makes so much sense for me that I would never do it, as I rarely do anything that makes good sense.

Have fun with it. We all know you’re really just playing the “absence makes the heart grow fonder” card and will return in a month to 7,432 new readers and invitations to join all the cool dad blogs.

Don’t be a stranger. See you in December!

I get this Dan. I’m feeling burnt out and haven’t been able to read much this week and have decided because of this I should do NaNoWriMo. Yep, me, very silly. It’s a buzz when you finish it though. So, you could send your month off doing that??
Or just chill. As long as you come back ok?

I am NEVER going to force myslef to blog every day for a year again. But at least I know I can do it for a month… I like April instead.
