Sure as eggs is eggs

There is a farm on the route to and from Amy’s school that sells free range eggs. The diet I am on says I’m allowed to eat as many eggs as I want, so we’ve been getting through quite a few recently.

The eggs are cheap, and as it’s always good to shop locally I’ve been picking up half a dozen every time we run short. Because I usually have at least one kid with me, and because they invariably want to “help” carry them home, there have been one or two casualties along the way. Amy is pretty trustworthy, but Evan? That boy is a loose cannon.

I am well aware that the Americans amongst you will be recoiling in horror at the idea of buying unrefrigerated eggs. But that’s the way it’s done over here. Eggs aren’t even refrigerated in the supermarkets. We like to live life on the edge I guess.

    That’s actually very cool.
You’re still around so I reckon it’s ok not to refridgerate them. :)

Why would you put eggs in the fridge? It’s hardly cold where they came from. Are they scared they might hatch?

I’m not refridgerating them..but I wouldn’t put them in the sun for too long either..
I just put them in a cupboard.
On a side note..eggs are great things to toss around..I once entered a game where you had to toss an egg to a partner to as great a distance as possible without breaking it. We scored 30m before it broke.

Eggs are the devils work in any format except maybe scrambled with a Full English Breakfast – other than scrambled with a full English Breakfast I wouldn’t eat anything that had come out of a chickens arse.

    This is brilliant.

Now, what could you sell, inflation priced diet coke?

  • Such cute pictures! I love eggs and have been known to eat them raw (cracked over rice). We’ve had occasional egg accidents, mostly due to a phase supermum went through of storing boiled eggs in the same section as uncooked ones.

Rattling the Kettle – As you should be. I inspire jealousy in all around me. at least I think they are jealous. Their faces go green at any rate.

Nat – I am considering a career change to a medieval food taster.

People in the Sun – Hot road? in England at the end of September?

James – I am going to take that as a compliment. I have no reason to, but still, I’m going to do it.

Rol – Amy is worried about that actually. Everytime I crack one open she has to have a look to see if a chick falls out

Arjan – People throw eggs at me all the time. They don’t tend to warn me they are doing it though.

Ed – what the hell is a Egss?

Jeff – Well they operate on an honor system where you leave the money in a pot so theoretically they could be free.

Gary – Eggs are tasty. Especially fried with crunchy burnt bits on.

Avitable – Now you know what the readers of your blog feel like when you post dolphin porn.

SingleParentDad – Well if Kerry would let me get chickens I could sell my own eggs.

(un)relaxeddad – I probably draw the line at raw eggs to be honest. I did try making egg fried rice the other day but it just turned out all gooey.

Dan, chickens are mean and they WILL eat you if they get the chance. I’m just saying…

From the looks of it, Evan prefers his sunny side up. I’m a scrambled man myself.

I don’t think unrefrigerated eggs are all that bad… it certainly makes it interesting when you find a feather in it.

SingleParentDad – I’ve considered the egglo, but it seems a little too plastic for me. I’m going for old fashioned bird flu harboring chicken shed. If Kerry would let me obviously.

NYCWD – I’ve found little red dots of embryos in my eggs int he past, but not from this place however.

Carla – i’ve never actually seen the chickens the eggs are supposed to come from. I suspect they just buy them from the supermarket and sell them on.

  • Whit says:

We had chickens when I was a kid. Did you know the eggs aren’t even refrigerated when they come out of the chicken? They must have been English.

  • Arjan says:

don’t your chickens líve in the refridgerator? That makes sure your eggs will be refridgerated the moment they pop out of your chicken.
