Top ten things I learnt walking Amy to school this morning

on Sep 08 in General by
  • It is a lot less stressful getting your children to nursery where it does not matter what time you arrive, than getting them to school where it does.
  • Evan is a very slow walker.
  • Evan is getting too heavy to carry any significant distance.
  • Amy fluctuates between being either a very fast runner or a completely immovable object depending on which will make your life the most difficult at the time.
  • Halfway to school is not a good time to realize that you have forgotten the dinner money.
  • You should always keep enough cash in the house to cover emergencies.
  • Raiding your daughter’s piggybank is not necessarily an immoral act given the right circumstances.
  • At a flat out sprint, dragging one child along by the hand and carrying the other one under my arm I can get to the school in around ten minutes. It normally takes me eleven.
  • I really need to do something about my levels of fitness.
  • Homeschooling might not be such a bad idea after all.

I say..onwards to a fitness centre, that way you might be able to carry Evan longer too ;) He’s ofcourse nót too heavy, your arms just need some exercise.

I figue it’s my money anyways in the piggy bank. I mean, it’s not like they actually earned it!

  • Blimey, what were the bottom ten?

Good stuff walking to school though, the car is not brilliant when you realise you’ve forgot something, and you arrive later, struggling to find somewhere to park.

No#1 Advocate of walking to school.

Your list sounds just like mine, but with an accent.

Over the years we’ve wiped out the kids’ piggy banks. Hey, they’ve got a roof over their heads and want for naught. My guilt didn’t last long.

I’m a-chuckling away to myself here. Yes I know where you’re coming from. I regularly have to get Jordan to lend me his dinner money – somehow it doubles at payback time.

Have you ever wondered why kids are unable to wake up on Mondays to Fridays but are up with the larks on Saturdays and Sundays?

How many times do you say “Have you cleaned your teeth” in a morning? I’m up to 20 in the space of 15 minutes now.

The boarding school sounds good to me.

But where will he keep the money?

Oh thanks for the laugh this morning.

Love back to school. It’s absolute madness.

I raid the allowance jar for pizza day money, but promise to give it back. Sometimes I even manage to do it.

Homeschooling great idea, but could you do it all day, huh huh?

We just emptied both of our daughters’ piggy banks and took the contents to be counted and put in their savings accounts.

With all of the change, more bills than we thought were in there, and some checks from birthdays that were still on the kitchen counter, each girl managed a deposit of almost $240.

Where do I sign up for this piggy banking thing?

  • Dan says:

Arjan – I think I’ll just put Evan on a diet. That would be better than me getting fit surely.

Ed – You don’t send your kids out to work down the coal mine?

SingleParentDad – We’re planning to walk every day unless weather makes it completely impractical.

JJ Daddy-O – tempting, although I don’t think having children who know how to use weapons would always bee a positive thing.

    Xbox – Not stole – re-prioritised.

(un)relaxeddad – Actually we don’t give them money, my mother does (and more recently so does the tooth fairy)

Whit – I think you’ll find that you are the one with the accent.

Gail – It’s a logistical nightmare. I’m even considering keeping them both up all night so we’ll have time to prepare to set off.

Rattling the Kettle – Deep man, deep.

Treemama – Pizza is almost like an allowance anyway

Holmes – Well I say minute, but I was rounding up

Deb – The new iPod touches were announced today. Some of them cost around $240. Just saying is all.

I’d give you a hard time but you know… I think I REALLY needed money for coffee one day. I did pay him back.

The adjustment to school… I’m still not over it.

‘Not stole – re-prioritised.’ sounds the same as burglars who claim not to be stealing but relocating or even better, are busy with ‘redistrubution of wealth’.

I can relate to your immovable object comment. I sometimes think my kids know exactly what the worst time to be difficult will be, and play up as much as they can at that moment.
