World War III. The first battle, part 2

cloud

So we’ve seen what team UK can do, now it’s the turn of team USA. If you don’t know what I’m talking about see yesterday’s post.

Name the TV show to go with the following theme tunes.

As I said before, there is a way to cheat on this quiz (not your iTunes version Phil, I fixed that). If you do know how to cheat, please don’t as it spoils the fun for everyone. We may be at war, but we still have to play fair.

These are all theme tunes from US TV shows. Well, one of them is from Canada, but let’s face it it’s the same thing really.

Tune 1

Tune 2

Tune 3

Tune 4

Tune 5

Tune 6

Tune 7

Tune 8

Tune 9

Can I still comment even though I’m not from the US of stateside the big apple? I am going to anyway.
The only ones I’d heard of were Charlie’s Angels and number 9 – which is driving me crazy! I want to say [censored] but I know it’s not – some [censored] though I think!

As I know you so well, though Dan, I would say that [censored], or some such rubbish and most likely [censored] would be there somewhere…..

I was very disappointed that Blossom didn’t make an appearance.

#1: adams family? ..if not..darn..it sounds so formiliar.
#5 Startrek (next gen?..the US should ask Lee, he’d know)

I bet I get censored..but what’s a world war without more than 2 countries meddling around.

Dan’s gone out and left me as quiz master / independent adjudicator so I say you can join whichever side you wish. But it has been noted ;)

1 – wrong but I was thinking on similar lines when I played it earlier
    5 – nearly there

Obviously as a Brit I’m not going to make any guesses, but I’ll be intrigued to hear the answers. I only recognise half of these.

    I knew 1, 3 and 5 though :D

Avitable – I found it harder to pitch the difficulty as I don’t know what the popularity of some of the shows were in the USA.

Pandora – Number 9 used to be my favorite program in the whole world. Not that that knowledge will do anyone any good in getting it mind you.

I was thinking that maybe you picked shows you liked, so I went through an archive and listened to some of the geeky shows out there, and still nothing is familiar.

Maybe next time you do this, we’ll get an American to do the US side and you do the UK side.

Avtable – I did pick shows I like, but some of them are from my dim and distant past. There’s still plenty of time for the Americans to make a dash for the winners podium. The guessing didn’t really hot up until around eight hours in yesterday. All of them have to be answered correctly before 4:13am my time for the USA to win.

Kevin – There are four remaining:)

Count me as totally stumped on 2, 4, 6, and 9.

The sounds familiar, but nothing’s coming up for titles.

    You must like weird shows.

Might as well take a guess…. Is #6 for Bay City Blues? Or maybe Grace Under Fire?

    Okay Dan-
4: Hardball( Very obscure Eddie Money gave it away though)
6: I’m thinking Nashville Star (I think I am wrong, oh well)
9: This one is killing me because I know it damnit!

Avitable – Sorry. I feel all guilty now.

Phil – 2 and 6 are pretty mainstream I think, and 9 was mainstream in it’s day.

Apathy Lounge – I expect you to have put in at least 60 hours by next Sunday.

Nat – Canadian is still American you know. Technically. Well, North American anyway.

Jeff S – 4 is Hardball. It used to be on at around 2am over here and I was addicted. It is a bit obscure but to be fair the guy actually does sing the title at the end in the big finish.

    So you now have

    1 – Dexter’s laboratory
    2 – ?
    3 – Dawson’s Creek
    4 – Hardball
    5 – Star Trek DS9
    6 – ?
    7 – Charlie’s Angels
8 – Kids in the Hall
    9 – ?

    I’ll give you some clues:

2 is a comedy staring a guy who used to be Hollywood
6 is an adaptation of a UK comedy panel game.
9 is set in San Francisco

Do I win a point for not recognising any of them?

And as I spent a large part of my life watching US TV, I’m surprised. I even thought 7 was Hart To Hart.

One guess – because I do recognise 9 and no-one’s got it yet… is it Lou Grant?

#9 is from Crazy Like a Fox. I wouldn’t have come up with it without the San Francisco hint though because I could have sworn it was from Mork & Mindy.

The only other ones I knew were #5, #7 and #8.
