Milk snatcher

So Margaret Thatcher has dementia. Of course she does, after all Ronald Reagen had it and those two were pretty keen on presenting a united front. I wonder if Alzheimers is sexually transmittable?

Dementia is a horrific condition, and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. But I do find some dark humor in the fantasy that she will end up in some dank privatized old peoples home. Looked after by indifferent sixteen year olds who leave her swimming in urine because the owners are too busy watching their bottom line to ensure that the place is staffed properly.

You know, the kind of place she is directly responsible for due to her deregulation and privatization of the social care industry.

But alas that really is just a fantasy. No doubt she is being cared for by the finest doctors and nurses in the country.

There has been all this talk recently about giving her a state funeral when she eventually pegs it. And that’s fine by me. She certainly was popular to a certain sector of society (the selfish and short sighted “I’m all right Jack” sector obviously). They deserve the chance to say goodbye to their Iron Lady in a way they see fit.

But so do the people who have a slightly less generous opinion of her achievements. And if they do spend public money on a state funeral then it’s only fair that we get to express our feelings at her passing too.

I’m torn between either dancing a jig or a irish hornpipe on her grave. What do you think?

So, I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that perhaps you’re not a fan of hers? Am I right? What do I win?

Or he could be doing the old, I hate her to conceal his (not so) secret love for her.

    I’m torn.

Sad, isn’t it? I would have said the dementia was a defense mechanism by the brain, but that would imply she ever gave a damn. Someone like that simply forgetting… Just fading… That’s a shame.

So, she tried to turn your healthcare-for-all system into the American healthcare-for-those-who-can-afford-it system?

I haven’t gone to a doctor in years, because it’s just too expensive for the little aches and pains. Unfortunately, it’s those little things that often turn out to be big things.

I just keep my fingers crossed… That doesn’t cost anything.

Kevin – I do have more favorite politicians it’s true

SingleParentDad – Damn you and your insightful psychoanalysis!

Paul – Almost. But not quite.

Nat – Yes. Maybe there is even a link between conservatism and dementia. Maybe if you spend all your time trying to forget about those more needy than yourself then you start to forget other things too.

People in the Sun – I imagine she’s never had a days guilt for anything she did.

Phil – The NHS has it’s faults, but I certainly know which system i’d want to be in if I had a chronic illness on a low income.

Politicians would have a hard time disbanding the NHS, but it was significantly run down during Thatcher’s reign and various bits of “not real healthcare” like old peoples homes became increasingly “outsourced” to greedy people with little real concern for patient care.

Don’t get me started on public utilities or transportation systems.

    Not a fan?

You just know that there will be glowing obituaries galore for her.

We had a similar dilemma a couple of years back when Haughey popped off.
He of 1982 ‘The country will face some hard choices, we must tighten our belts’ fame, while shagging newsreaders, buying islands, jetting to Paris at the weekends for suit fittings, and generally skimming off 95% of the country’s wealth.
He got his state funeral in the end.

Well, I hated the cow, but I wouldn’t wish dementia on anyone. Her legacy is till crippling us, but gloating won’t help. I’ll just follow Joan Rivers advice when she pops it:

I was always told it was wrong to speak bad of the dead. You should speak good instead. Like this, “Margaret Thatcher is dead? Good!”

As an aside, when the state funeral details were revealed, a thread popped up on a forum I frequent titled “State Funeral for Thatcher”. Half the posts were from people disappointed that this was preparation and the the Iron Bitch was still alive

the state funeral is just to be sure she get’s buried..they want to see her buried I tell you.

They just hope she forgets she’s alive..and they can go ahaid with it already.

A lovely but naughty chum of mine will be hiring a coach so that he can organise a trip for those who wish to express their grief by micturitating on her grave.

I think he’ll need more than one coach and in an ironic thatcherite twist make a fortune by charging for places.

Dan, I think you and Mr B may be brothers of some kind. I haven’t told him about Thatcher’s dementia, otherwise he would be dancing and singing and it might scare the ids. She was a pretty vile human being though.

Dan, I just read this to Mr B and he would like it noted that perhaps the government could install disco lights on her grave that the people may come and dance on it. He agrees that a jig or an Irish hornpipe would be lovely, or just a bit of good old fashioned pogo-ing.

I quite like the idea of the Trafalger Square party myself, all night illegal rave.

The real shame will be seeing Labour politicians who should know better saying nice things about her, she is and was, and ever will be an evil selfish bitch.

xbox – I’m ashamed to admit my knowledge of Irish politics is less than it should be. If I’m honest I thought your president was that “Lucky charms” feller.

Pandora – I didn’t mean to gloat, but I just feel that the harm she did shouldn’t be overlooked in a wave of sympathy.

Arjan – I never thought of it that way.

Morticia – I think I’d draw the line at urination. It’s interesting how much hatred she can still summon up. I can’t think of any other politician who has the same effect on people.

Jo – Has Mr B got a bald head and sticky out ears? Because if he has he just might be my brother.

Jane – Yes. I was pretty sickened when Brown invited her to number 10 and called her a “conviction politician”.

can’t say labour have done much for me personally. We are of the ilk of those who earn a few quid more than you need to get everything we could get for nothing yet don’t earn enough to pay for it ourselves.

casting a vote is like having to choose between sticking a hot poker in your eye or cutting off a foot.

James – She was your idea of the English? I’m surprised you could bring yourself to talk to me.

Gail – I bet they have you know. For example, tax free nursery vouchers you can buy through your salary aren’t means tested. Nor is the free half day mon-fri nursery education for three year olds (Our local school doesn’t have a nursery, so we even got given the money to pay for this privately).

Plus there is the decade of finacial prosperity that you’ve probably benefited from (ok, its gone to pot now – but that’s the world climate and not Labours falt, no matter what the daily mail says). Never mind about the heavy investment in education, particularly adult education. Would your job exisit under the tories? I have no idea, but it might not have.

I’m not really a Labour man anymore, they don’t lean far enough left for my liking. But I can recognize they have done some good, even if they have balls things up in other areas (iraq)

And here ends the party political broadcast

Whit – I dunno, i forget who I was talking about now.

There was a time when I would sing along heartily to Elvis Costello’s “Tramp the dirt Down” (a song specifically about Thatcher’s demise). Nowadays not so.

Perhaps I’m just not an angry young man any more. Or perhaps part of me feels a hypocrite for praising the last ten years of labour (or at least the sort of things Dan lists above) when they left in tact many of the things that made us so angry back then.

You know the scene when they bury a sailor at sea ?

They tip a board up and the body slides out and plops into the the water ?

They should perform that ceremony for the old witch (how much like everyones cartoon witch image does she look now ?)…

…but tip her down a coal mine shaft in a final ironic stylee.

Steve – I don’t think there are any angry young men anymore. Which is a sad thing.

Gary – A fantastic idea. Have you submitted it to the relevant authorities? the only problem would be finding a coal mine that is still open.
