Write the theme tune, sing the theme tune

Messing around on various BitTorrent sites the other day a number of things accidently found their way onto my hard drive. One was the complete discography of George Carlin, which i am very much enjoying working my way through. Something a little more random however was a file containing a couple of hundred classic TV theme tunes.

Every now and again Jeff from View from the Cloud runs a spot the TV theme tune contest. I’ve managed to get a few of them in the past (Gentle Ben and Ren and Stimpy off the top of my head) but have always suffered from the fact that Jeff inconsiderately choses American TV shows rather than British. The racist swine.

Never being one to shy away from stealing someone else’s ideas I have devised my own fiendish quiz, this time with a definite UK bias. The circle is now complete. When I left him I was but the student, but now I am the master.

So let’s have your guesses then. In the interest of international relations I’ve tried to throw in a couple shows that have been aired on both sides of the Atlantic.

Was that the north side or the south side of the Atlantic? I don’t know any of these!

Grrrrr this is going to bug me all day! I know the tunes but cannot for the life of me match the shows – I’m getting old!
I have a horrible feeling that the third one was Worzel Gummidge though? I’ll come back to the rest when I’ve woken up a bit more ;o)

Ed – Shame on you sir

Penelope – I wouldn’t worry about getting old. Most of the shows are pretty old in the first place, maybe you’re just getting young. And yes, number three is Worzel Gummidge (”a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake”)

Its nice to have your quizzes back even if this is a one off :)

1: The Avengers (A classic theme tune!)
    2: Drop the Dead Donkey
    3: Worzel Gummidge
4: The Saint (I’m surprised no-one recognised this from the remake!)
    5: Follyfoot

Cool. I’ll give everyone a head start next week though :)

It helps that my local radio station has been running a “Guess the into theme” competition for the last few months, so I’ve been listening to *lots* of theme tunes on YouTube recently.

THIS WAS FUN! Enough fun for me to phone my parents and play it with them down the phone…. they were useless.

I was also rubbish at it.

I say: The Avengers, Pass, Wurzle but that’s not my guess – it’s nicked off your comments, Randall & Hopkirk?, Follyfoot (farm?).

Topchamp – You’re right on the Avengers, Wurzle, and Follyfoot. You were missing 2. Drop the dead Donky and 4 The Saint.

I’m going to do another one next saturday. Same bat time, same bat channel

No fair stealing my idea while I’m on vacation. It’s ok though, I don’t think I would have gotten ANY of these anyway. At least when I do it, the songs are somewhat possible to get! ;b
