A trip to the Dales

It’s only twelve days now until our walk and my hopes of becoming super fit and loosing four stone in weight are fast diminishing. I could still do it though, all I need to do is start a gruelling exercise regime and go on a crash diet.

I’ll start Monday.

I’m planning on another big online donation drive at some point next week. If you haven’t already given then please consider doing so. Not only will you have the satisfaction of contributing to my pain and discomfort as I walk 78 miles in six days, But you will also be helping a really worthwhile cause.

I had a day off yesterday so I thought I would head off into the Dales just to make sure I knew how to get to our various bits of accommodation from the route. And I’m glad I did; it took me an hour and a half to work out how to get from the Dales Way to the campsite we will be staying at on the fourth night. I’m sure that this wouldn’t have gone down well if it had happened after a long tiring day of walking.

Sandip has expressed concerns about camping as he is a man who likes the luxuries in life. Just to calm his fears here is a photo I took of Holme Open Farm where we will be staying:

Tee-he-he.

Never mind Sandip, the place we are staying on our first night is far more suited to your tastes:

I can’t believe this walk is upon us–erm–you. I’ll be sitting quite comfortably in my nice air conditioned living room.

My legs start aching each time you mention the 16 mile treks.

Looks like some nice accomodations on the first night. The farm, not so much. I too like luxuries.

I will post something on my blog to hopefully help you get more donations. Good luck!

You could lose 4 stone in 12 days I guess, by chopping off your legs.

That pub looks fabulous. I wanna sit in there for the afternoon.

Oh man, I want to stay there! The second photo, not the first.

Actually, that first one kinda looks like the place where my wife and I honeymooned.

Ed – It’s snuck up on me too. And my legs are aching too.

VegasDad – Thanks so much, you’re a good egg.

Xbox – Chopping off my legs might have a slight impact on my walking ability – which would mean I too could sit in the pub for the afternoon. A plan with no drawbacks

Phil – Maybe next year Phil

Kevin – It looked pretty nice from the inside too.

You really do live in a beautiful part of the world Dan. It’s years since I was up there. After seeing that pub, I need to go again…soon!

Blimey – Holme Open Farm looks just like my Dad’s farm. I’ll have a word, he might let you sleep in with the cows.

Penelope – I don’t strictly live in the Dales, it’s about an hour drive away. I do however live on the edge of the peak district – which is also beautiful, but in a slightly more rugged way.

Morticia – Kerry was planning on ringing you about that (and other things) this weekend

Rol – It’s better than sleeping with the fishes I suppose

Absurdist – The Yorkshire Dales is a national park in the north of england. I’m walking 78 miles through it and into the lake district (another national park) in just over a week’s time in aid of a friends charity (see the donate button on this post).

To be fair I know very little about texas apart from Superted’s arch enemy came from there (which in turn you will know nothing about – oh the joy of a cultural chasm)

You know that is beautiful, almost makes me want to with you. Almost ;)
Must definitely plan some hiking there next time we are in the U.K. (happens once every 20 years.)

Looks great. Can’t wait to get started!

Just need to make sure my waterproofs are waterproofs, and my boots fit.

I have even located my sleeping bag (it was at a friend’s house, who had denied possession of it on three separate counts of asking).

I’d love to walk alongside you, imagine all the chitter chatter of days gone by and computers and gadgets and mens’ stuff…but I think I said I would wash my hair that weekend!

I’ll post a link on my blog too.

Have you booked decent weather? Your Indie hat won’t cope with what we’ve had lately!!!

Nat – It is a wonderful part of the country.

Oli – Pah, waterproofs?! I’m so confident of good weather I’m leaving mine behind

Whit – It will be for the first days walking. Whether we get started on the second is another matter

Gail – There’s no girls allowed on the trip anyway. it was in the original proposal and everything.
