Empty House

Recently I’ve expanded my repertoire of walks to include a few more hills. I’m still basically walking from Slaithwaite to Marsden and back, but now I’m trudging up the valley sides rather than the valley bottom.

The other day I came across a rather dilapidated abandoned farm house. Despite my anxieties about being murdered by a lurking drug addict I had a quick poke around. I liked what I saw, so this morning I went back with the camera.

I can only think the reason that the house is abondoned rather than converted into a swish executive home is that it isn’t accessible by road. Well, that and there is no water or electricity. Didn’t stop me fantasizing about buying it and renovating myself though. A man can dream, and an empty house in the middle of nowhere is the ideal place to do so.

If that meant what I think it means, I don’t think her mom wants to know.

Nice pictures. Abandoned farm houses around here are rotten in no time. Wood and termites. I loved all the stone work when we were over there.

Wow that’s phenomenal – I love the one with the trees growing up through the house.
You find me a job over there and I’ll buy it and rebuild it ;)

Looks a tad Blair Witch to me. And as a current self-builder myself (www.selfbilge.wordpress.com), I can only imagine the extra anguish building there would bring.

It could be cool, but if that became your bedroom, would Jack be kind of there with you in a way? With his lady friend. Or gentleman friend, I mean, we’re all open minded right? Do you want extra people in your head when you’re playing naked twister?

Awesome! I always like how nature takes it’s territory back. I would like to visit Tsjernobil (in a hazmat suit or something) just because of the pure desolation of a once inhabited place.

Very nice… but it looks haunted to me.

Hey, Happy Father’s Day Dan. Tell your kids I told them to give you a big hug.

defintely looks haunted. Probably a couple of bodies buried under there too.

Jeff, is that your real photo, or has it been photoshopped, to elongate your forehead? All of my photos are shopped to expand the girth of my stomach. Fact.

Just be careful if you’re walking up the moors between Slawit and Marsden… you never know WHO you might meet up there.

    Nice photos.

How delightful. I once came across a derelict farmhouse in the borders, we had seen it advertised for sale and an american had bought it a year or so before. (It was one of the places hubbys ancestors had lived at previously, hence the interest) When we went inside (as you do) it was as if the old farmer had just walked out the door to work. There were day to day items just lying there in the kitchen, a newspaper, a tea pot. I guess the American thought it too much hassle – it had no ‘utilities’ either, and you needed to be an extreme 4×4 off-roader to get to it! I wanted to buy it and live there in solitude.
