I love cows,esecially Fresians as I practically lived on my friends farm as a kid. They have such pretty faces. They are quite clean aren’t they, apart from their back ends sometimes.

A few years back during the Foot & Mouth outbreak, I was heartbroken thinking about all the beautiful cows that had to be destroyed. The countryside was silent and bare. It was awful.

Oh yeah, it all comes down to perspective! I can remember when I was a city little girl, when cows were exotic creatures we read about it picture boos. Now I live in a rural area of NH, and we have horses, elk and many different varieties of cows all over the place. MY kids, however, have to be pried out of their books or Mp3 players to look up, say, “Huh?” and then agree that yes, it is beautiful/interesting/cool.

As a town boy, I love being in the sticks. I love the whole tree gazing thing. But this has always bothered me;

When we eat cows it’s beef, when we eat pigs it’s pork, when we eat lambs it’s lamb and when we eat chicken it’s chicken.

To save confusion I simply refer to all meat as the animal it is. It’s easier for a toddler to understand.
