George Lucas is a lot like Russell T Davis. I appreciate and respect him for what he has done for popular culture, but I wish he’d leave his creations to be written by someone with a bit more of an eye for a story.
Kerry and I have just got back from seeing Indiana Jones. It was good, but it wasn’t great. Which is about what I was expecting. The CGI was a bit overused but I expected that. The plot was a little tired and the twists a little overused but I expected that too. The car chases were cool, as expected. And there were a few rather amusing quips, which was, yes you guessed it, pretty much expected too.
Yep, there weren’t many surprises here good or bad. The film stayed true to the Indiana Jones character, which was the most important thing. It was no Iron Man, but it was no Robocop 3 either.
You’ll probably want to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but to be honest you can probably wait until it comes out on DVD.

Dang.. I thought they might over do it with the CGI. We’ll probably go see the double feature of Indy and Iron man at the drive-in tomorrow night.

I still want to see it at the theater, just for the experience. And I love popcorn.

I think George Lucas’s influence was obvious and negatively affected what could have been an awesome film and ended up being good.

I think your perspective would be different if you’d had a kid sitting next to you.
I know I definitely watched it through the eyes of my son. I kept looking over at him to see this huge grin on his face all the way thought the movie.
If it had been just me, or my wife and me, maybe it would’ve seemed all a bit silly and predictable.
I feel the same way about National Treasure and Night At The Museum. My opinion of both movies is absolutely improved because I watched them with my kids.
Yeah, expected, but still totally going to see it this weekend.

Would like to see it, take the boys to see it probably. All about proper expectations. Sounds like you were good in that regard.

All the reviews so far seem to be a bit bleurgh. I hate it when the reality doesn’t live up to the hype. Still not sure if I can be bothered to go and see it.
I did read the Sunday Times Magazine article where they said CGI wouldn’t feature heavily as they wanted to keep the look and feel of the older movies, I guess they lied?

I guess I reacted a lot more emotionally than I expected to the film, but I guess Indy was a big part of my childhood and to see what they did to him in this film really made me mad.
It should have been a sure bet.
Dude, gophers and fridges!?!?!
That’s all I got to say.

I’ll tell you what is nice though. Thjat the film was released almost simultainiously worldwide. None of this America getting it a month first rubbish.
Coem to think of it Iron man was like that too.

So which of the two would be most suitable for a 5 year old who is a big fan of Spiderman, LOTR, Transformesr, Star Wars, and most other films of that ilk? I know they are PG 12′s but he will be ok unless there is bad language or sexy stuff in them. He is desperate to see Iron Man and Indy.
What do you think?

Oh and does it go into detail about the crystal skulls? You know from my second last post I’m well into them.

I’m so weird when it comes to movies. I won’t go to a movie when it’s nice outside. So it either has to be dark, because I want to spend as much daylight outside as possible or it has to be rainy. Since I live in Seattle it gets both dark and rainy, oftenat the same time. But the next selection in the criteria, is ‘do I need to see this on the big screen’? Indiana Jones and the crystal hip replacement…sure why not.
But I’ll wait until it rains
