And then I shall capture the Golden Stag of Artemis

These are the things I am doing at the moment:

  • Working full time
  • Looking after the kids two days a week
  • Organizing the logistics of the Dales Walk
  • Fundraising for the Dales Walk
  • Training for the Dales Walk
  • Blogging nearly every day

But perhaps that’s not enough. Hercules had twelve labors and I’m only managing six. I need to up my game if I want to qualify for greek god status (and lets face it i already have the body for it). How else can I add more weight to my load? I know, the garden!

Spring has sprung and if I want to grow any veg this year I’m going to have to get started on doing it now. Yesterday I spent a bit of time out the back and planted some peas, carrots, and spinach. I’ve already got some tomato and pepper seedlings sitting on the windowsill waiting until the risk of frosts has passed. And I have vague plans for sweetcorn and pumpkins, potatoes and runner beans.

But this year my heart isn’t quite in it. I’m still going to have a go, but wrestling the time away from everything else is proving rather difficult.

Still the evenings are getting lighter and so a little time can perhaps be salvaged there when I’m not working. Whatever happens I must make sure I at least maintain the garden. Despite appearances to the contrary I’ve invested a lot of work out there, and it would be a real shame to let the wilderness re-take it.

I think if you count each vegetable as a labor–you’re there, my man.

My gardening plans are always—next year. I’ve got some producing fruit trees that need some pruning. Maybe I’ll focus there this year.

Wow. Having participated in massive tilling and framing and blah blah blah that goes with getting a spot ready to garden… I’m impressed.

My lot is too small for a garden I think, so I’m hoping to do an herb garden in my window sill.

Wow. The Man does all the gardening at our place… I do love it so. It’s much smaller than that. That is spectacular!

I’m getting my garden ready to plant this weekend. I have some of my little seedlings, some other I buy from a local nursery as a fund raiser for K’s old preschool.

And I just found out that our next door neighbors who have a huge hedge between our yards that blocks out a ton of my light… want to cut it down!! I am so excited!!!!

Sorry. I get really excited during planting season. Whatever happened to your pop bottle greenhouse by the way?

My wife and kids plant our garden in the spring.

By late summer, they’ve given up on it. That’s when I swoop in to reap the harvest. Last year I found a bounty of green beans under a tangle of weeds.

My contribution to the garden this spring will be a rock wall around part of it. I’d do more, but I have a 30×10 wood deck to build onto our house. Oh, and I guess I should finish that damn basement project I started.

Hey, maybe you can take some time to fly here and give me a hand?

what a lot of veg to look after. I’m a chuck it in and see what happens type of person. I am good with strawberries and herbs though.
What about the labour of maintaining a constant supply of chilled beer for observation times? Could you add that?

Blimey you’re dedicated! My garden and I are in constant battle with it winning most rounds. I knew there was a reason I should have stayed married ;o)

I have just had my Easter Cactus removed from my care by a concerned brother.

That’s the closest I get to gardening.

I haven’t used my garden in years. Each spring I vow to get it cleaned up and going again, then I find excuses…

This year…. er, maybe I’ll succeed.

Ed - I know what you mean about always having plans for next year. I’ve been intending to lay a hazel hedge since we moved here three years ago.

Miss Britt - You don’t know the half of it, the garden carries on for another 50 meters or so from the spot I took that picture.

Nat - This is probably going to be my first year of proper gardening, up until now I’ve mainly been just digging and hitting things with hammers.

CamiKaos - The pop bottle greenhouse is still progressing out the front of the house, I shall post an update soon.

    istopmom - I am indeed.

    Phil - Err… I think I’m busy that week.

Xbox4NappyRash - Hang on, was that a threat?

Gail - Now that sounds like a labour worth doing

Penelope - I’m always a better gardener in the wintertime when I don’t actually have to do anything

    Bec - Cactus killer

Deb - Nope, but I shall be using the tyres I stole last year

Arjan - You could always get a windowbox

Maureen - As I say, I don’t hold out much hope for this year. I’ve just got too much on.

Actually now I read it back it did sound like a threat.
