It’s 10pm on the 29th of February and I’m sitting in another service station, this time on the northbound carriage of the motorway. Other than “somewhere on the M1″ I don’t actually know where I am. My attitude towards the M1 has always been “just keep going until you see Sheffield” and I don’t see why I should change now. If tomorrow’s post comes from Northumberland you’ll know I’ve overshot.
Of course the above paragraph will mean nothing to the chronically American amongst you. But I have to read about your bloody election all the time so the least you could do is learn some basic British geography. I wouldn’t mind so much but you don’t even go to the polls until November!
Anyway, I’ve decided I’m voting for John Kerry.
I had a great time in London. Rather predictably I didn’t end up doing any of the things I’d planned on. But I got to play on the underground and saw Nelson’s Column. I also got to trawl around various pubs and restaurants with my friend Rob, which was most enjoyable. Rob and I went to the University of Sunderland together and we spent a very pleasant afternoon reminiscing about our time there:
“Remember when we got mugged and they stamped on my head and punched you in the face?”
“Ah yes, happy days”
I also got to make appropriate cooing and gurgling noises at Rob’s 3 week old son. I took a picture but inadvertently also captured a rather large proportion of his partner’s cleavage. I’ve decided that it would not be appropriate to publish it here for public consumption, so I’ll just keep in my “private folder”.
Rob’s called his son Daniel, which is a fine upstanding name if you ask me. He may well change his mind once he sees this post however.

By the way, I was looking at what movies are playing here in Central Illinois and saw that there’s a 3-D U2 concert movie playing. That reminded me of the time I made a comment here that Bono should donate some U2 money towards relieving some third world debt. Somebody did like my comment. I didn’t go see the U2 movie because I didn’t think it would help the third world any. Think I’ll get slapped down again?

Bet you had some ‘hoots’ while at Uni up here. Newcastle is now one of the ’stag night’ venues of the world – great if you want to drink yourself into a stupor and cavort around the streets half nekked.
But in the daytime it is a lovely city!
Er – yes you DO look like a man who irons his underpants.

HP – That’s what I get for reading US blogs. Pub crawls are pretty cool, although I’m not sure I could stomach one these days.
Phil – We haven’t seen spooks yet, but have heard good things about it. it’s on our list.
CableGirl – Someone who irons underwear looks a lot like the gentleman pictured above, but about 12 years younger
Stacy – I don’t even iron my outerwear
Gail – That’s not me, that’s Rob. Uni was good, but no thanks to Sunderland. Northumberland on the other hand is lovely. We’ve hired a cottage up there for three years in a row (although not last year)
xbox4NappyRash – I had to work today, and so needed to be home friday night at a reasonable time (as it is I left London about 7pm and didn’t get home until 1:30am).
I’m not a musicals person, but I have heard very good things about Wicked. I’d rather see Avenue Q though. Last time I was in London I saw the reduced shakespear company and that was very enjoyable.
Morticia – I wondered why my underpants used to be crease free when we shared a house.
Shannanb – To be fair I don’t think he irons his underwear anymore.

And I too can’t believe the election crap goes on for so long in the US. Here in Canada it’s over in a couple of weeks.
Nice to visit you for the first time!

I only follow the election through http://socksandbarney.com which almost preaches Obama though, but it’s funny and it’s a less boring way of following the whole election crap than tv or the newspapers.

Whit – Torchwood is filmed in Wales and Robin Hood in Bulgaria or something, but it’s the thought that counts.
Sister Sassified – We call them pants. Which is why we snigger a lot when discussing trousers with Americans.
Mauree – Nice to have you here!
Arjan – I’m trying to avoid it altogether because I recently found out that for some reason I’m not allowed to vote in it.
Oli – It’s taken about half an hour for me to realise that there wasn’t a Gremlins 3.
