The cure for all the world’s ills?

Someone told me recently that any situation, no matter how sad, can be made infinitely less distressing merely by the addition of the Benny Hill theme music. I decided to test this out with the movie that Channel 4 recently designated the biggest tear jerker of all time.

Mmmm, I think the jury is still out on this one. Perhaps I should devote the entire of next week to investigating it.

Perhaps not.

Laughing so hard I can’t breathe. I want to live my life to the soundtrack of Benny Hill. The world would be so much more enjoyable.

That was a simply awesome transformation. I was giggling. Next experiment: National Lampoon to the music from Jaws.

All that needed was some girls in skimpy outfits, and maybe Elliot giving E.T. a quick pat on the head.

I’m in an absolute rotten mood right now.

With that preface, I was laughing my arse off within two seconds of hitting play. Thanks, I needed that.

Wow, a totally new E.T. perspective. Definitely more “investigating” is needed to prove the theory. How about trying it on Old Yeller.

You should try that music with some horror movie, like Halloween or The Ring.

    Brilliant – highly amusing!

And Whit, I think you’re right. In fact, what the WORLD needs is some girls in skimpy outfits..

That was quite clever. Although I would have used the scene where he is on his bike as well.

Pure genius Dan. The true test would be against Schindler’s List. There’s NOTHING that can make that movie fun to watch.

Kathy – Living with a Benny Hill soundtrack is a dream I think we can all admit to having at some point in our life.

BrentD – That’s tempting, or possibly Benny Hill to a John Williams score.

ImPerceptible – Do it, it’s a decision I have yet to regret (of course I only put it on half an hour ago)

Whit – Nurses was what it lacked, nurses and a man being pushed in a wheelchair.

    Donna – Ha indeed

Jason – I’m considering doing further investigations later in the week.

Phil – The chaseing about the hotel in The Shinning was what sprung to mind

Bon Bon – You are an evil mother.

Jane – Thanks for sticking it up on your blog.

Oli – Whit is always right. Well, mostly always.

Avitable – I don’t own the film so I was restricted to the clips I could find on youtube. i really wanted all the running around in the isolation tubes

Jeff – Yeah, X men 3 is a bit like that too.

Oh God, really? E.T.? Tearjerker? Actually looking at the Channel 4 list you have to go to Number 12, Beaches, before you get to a film that makes me blub… and everything makes me cry – including car ads!

Although the Benny Hill vid works so very well!

I’ve watched this about seven times now and shown it to several people, I can confirm that not only was the sequence lightened in tone but also made more entertaining. Bravo.

It definitely makes it funny. I’d like to to see it with something bloodier too. Maybe it could make Sweeney Todd a good film.

This is the answer to my problem with scary movies in a public theater! Now if I just bring along my ipod loaded with upbeat music, I know I will stop screaming out loud when things jump out on the screen! Thank you so much!!
