Introducing the…
Unfortunately no one guessed the name of the team correctly. I’m not sure why though, Chives seems the natural choice to me. Apparently at one point the Dallas Cowboys were going to go with the name too, but changed their minds at the last moment. If you look hard enough you can occasionally find 1960’s prototype Dallas Chives merchandise floating around ebay now and again.
While no one got it right, there were some damn good tries. A lot of you even put in some research, which was very impressive indeed. Alas there can be only one winner and that is Phil from A Family Runs Through It. It’s true that his guesses weren’t particularly close to the mark, but to be fair neither were anyone else’s. And anyway, I’ve been feeling rather favorably towards him since he sent me a t-shirt and a mix tape.
So what’s the prize I hear you ask. Well if you give me a second I tell you. As well as some random and as yet to be determined rubbish I will send him in the post, Phil has won the magnificent honor of becoming the first official Huddersfield Chives mascot. Look, he even gets a badge to prove it:
But no one goes away empty handed. Although the position of mascot has been filled, the team is still in need of players. The Huddersfield Chives are pioneers in a revolutionary tactical system, which was developed exclusively for us by a group of Tibetan monks. Unlike conventional American Football sides, our team will almost exclusively be made up of one position only: Quarterbacks. I am very happy to announce that the following people who commented on the last post have been picked for that prestigious position.
- Bec from Out Of My Tree
- Deb from Toast Ambassador
- Dwayne from Sluggo is Yoyo
- Jeff from View from the Cloud
- The Chick from Outta the Coop
- Zoë’s Dad from Zoë’s Dad
- Tracy from Whim
- Holmes from The Holmes
- Contrary from Very Contrary
- Dan Leone from Cafe Leone
There is one last, none quarterback, position to allocate:
- Oli from The Dales Walk
Go Chives!!
If anyone actually want’s to put one of these badges on their site then let me know and I’ll email you the code (I can’t work out how to quote HTML commands on the blog without the browser just reading the code as code, if that makes any sense)

I swear that if you had given me one more day I would have come up with The Huddersfield Chives. My dream game would be the Chives going up against the West Yorkshire Mustard Tubes.

Thanks for your concern Jeff.
I must say, I’d prefer to be a Quarterback, though I’m not even sure I want to be a Chive. I only left a comment to make Dan’s blog look as though people read it – you know, to make up the numbers.
I think I might join Kerry’s side on the Keeping Chickens ‘discussion’.

Cheerleaders are definitely needed too – they could dance to the Chives Song from The Herbs.

Now I will spend the next 4 hours trying to move that badge and will likely end up failing miserably.
At least I have a winning attitude!
