What's so fifteen years ago about Arcade Fire? You know, the song with MY name next to it that's sooooo not fifteen years ago. And did you see my name was next to the Arcade Fire?

P.S. Audacity runs on Macs too. Great little bit of software but the snag is that you'll have to set up the mp3 codex (it requires Lame) separately. Not at all complicated, mind.

Island Girl - Oh sorry, I didn't realize that Men At Work were from New Zealand too. I always thought they were from Australia, but then again I suppose it's all the same thing anyway.

I'm replying here because the encouragement I'm giving Island Girl to do their own podcast pretty much applies to everyone else. Plus Yahoo Mail and Hotmail are conspiring to keep us from corresponding in private.

Firstly, hosting space is basically the computer that the podcast is stored on that allows other people to access it via the internet. I have some space on a computer that I use to store this blog, just as you have a computer that stores yours (blogger). I pay for mine so am able to use it a lot more flexibly - i.e. put files on it that aren't my blog.

Secondly, I'm assuming you are using a PC rather than a Mac. If so you can download some free podcast software (a lot of people seem to like <a href-"http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/" rel="nofollow">Audacity). You're also going to need a microphone of some description that will plug into your computer (if you have a webcam that is likely to have one on it). You will also need the music that you want to use too obviously.

If you've downloaded the music from iTunes then it is likely to have copy protection on it. Some unscrupulous people have been known just to burn the tracks to a CD and then re-copy it into iTunes in order to strip off the copy protection, but I wouldn't advocate that as it is very naughty.

You could do one of two things. You could work out how to put you doing the speaky bits together with the music and produce a marvelous podcast all on your ownsome. Or you could send me mp3's of the separate speaky bits and the music and I could put them together for you. Either way is fine (but the last one means less work for me). I'll use Kerry's email for you to send stuff to me, so let me know if you want to have a go and I'll send it to you.

How's that sound?

How to make a podcast

I must point out that if you do the same kind of thing as me (i.e. using music) you are breaking various copyrights held by the record companies, and so while i imagine we'll get away with it with a small listening audience - I'm not sure how wise it would be to really push for publicity and list it on all the podcasting websites and listings.

That's about it if you died fifteen years ago, yes. If you're still in the land of the living then there are one or two hundred other bands to consider.

What is hosting space? You don't realise how Amish I am. I need help to sign into my blog each morning. But I'm willing to learn.

OK, so there's Crowded House, Split Endz, Tim Finn, Neil Finn, The Finn Brothers.... that's about it for New Zealand artists isn't it?

I'd be happy to do the podacst you suggest, but it would be far better if you did it. I'm more than willing to give you some of my hosting space if you wanted it.

Go on, you know you want to.

I propose a NZ podcast. I'll provide you with the names of 9 stellar NZ tracks, and you will source them and make the podcast. That sounds fair! It will be your honour! I'm excited!
