Sick
on Jul 20 in General by DanEvan was admitted to hospital last night. Breathing problems, just like last time. I could tell you the whole tale: Kerry’s increasing concern throughout the evening, my frustration at having to be at work, my colleagues kindness in covering for me when I eventually left, my in-laws support in going to the hospital with Kerry and then looking after Amy today. But there is no value in it for me to go over it all again. It wouldn’t be enjoyable, cathartic, or useful to write, and so I’m letting it lie.
He’s ok. He’s back home after having steroids, oxygen, and various nebulizers overnight. He’s still wheezy and breathing rapidly. We have our instructions on what to look for and reassurances that we did the right thing in seeking help. They say he’s just one of those children who’s lungs take a beating every time he’s ill. Just like Amy was, and she appears to have grown out of it now.
But still, the whole thing is very upsetting.
I hate it when my children become ill.

That is the most helpless feeling in the world.
Glad he’s doing better.
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that! How upsetting. Glad that the little guy is back at home now, and I hope he picks up quickly. We shall excuse you if you take a blogging break :)
Awww, that sucks. Get well soon Evan!!!
Me too, that’s the worst. Glad the little guy’s feeling better.
That’s awful – we’ve only had to take Ronen to the ER once, but it produced enough stress to last a lifetime. But what a sigh of relief to get him back home safe, huh?
Get well, Evan!
LA Mommy and I both have asthma so we know of what you speak. LA Toddler is always a bit wheezy, but we’ve not had any problems (knock on wood) to speak of.
Do me a favor – try to get Evan to eat an apple a day. Or every few days. It really does help.
Nine years later and I still feel unsettled when I think about taking my daughter to the emergency room. I hope he’s feeling better soon and he outgrows it like his sister.
Poor little guy. Glad everyone is breathing better.
I’d blame that earlier bus ride.
So sorry about Evan. I hope the little man is doing well. And I hope you are all holding up. No fun at the hospital.
Hope he’s feeling better by now. Nothing worse than emergency rooms. Thinking of you and yours.
Update.
Evan’s quite a bit better now. He’s still off his food but his breathing seems to be settling back to normal.
Thanks for all your comments.
Hope he’s back on his food and completely unwheezy soon.
Just catching up on my reading, and was so saddened to see Evan had been ill. Glad to know he’s doing better!
I feel bad for all of you. I put my parents through that when I was a kid, and yes, I did grow out of it. It still was stressful for everyone though.
