The battle for console supremacy

Anyone who’s interested in gaming will have noticed all the buzz about the next generation of consoles on the horizon.

The new PS4 controller

I suspect the real battle is going to be between the PS4 and whatever Microsoft are going to call their new Xbox (the 720 is my bet). the Wii U came out recently, but as far as I can tell it was a bit of a damp squib and so I’m discounting it.

From what I saw of the announcement of the PS4 I’m not quite ready to sell my Xbox yet. For a start I’m pretty unhappy with the decision to not make it backwardly comparable with games from previous playstation consoles.

It feels to me that this is all part of the ongoing campaign by the games industry to try and eradicate the secondary games market.

Which is extremely shortsighted of them indeed. Because not being able to buy cheap second hand games that caught my fancy and then sell them again on services like music magpie doesn’t mean i’d buy those same games brand new for full price at £45 each. it would actually mean me making the decision that a console isn’t cost effective to buy in the first place – and so never buying the one or two new games I do buy each year.

I suspect that the battle of who’ll win the condole wars won’t be won on which has the better graphics or sound, it’ll be won by the company who is the most sympathetic to the secondary games market.

  1. As far as I know, the new PS4 will be sold under $600 and this will be a great choice compared with the new XBOX. Whether it is sony PS4 or the new XBOX, both of them are sure to bring more fun for gaming enthusiasts like me.

That is true, I believe that individuals that love games will get a kick out of the PS4 and the new xbox, as well.
