I am now 0.023% less of a man

I went for my tooth taking out this morning. It was much less of an ordeal than I had anticipated, just a few tugs, an unpleasant cracking noise, and then it was over. Looking at it siting in the silver bowl I was struck by how big it seemed and felt a little pang of regret that I hadn’t opted for the root canal.

Still, it’s out now. The dentist even uttered an involuntary “yuck” as she was pointing out the cavity in it to me. I now have to spend the next couple of days trying to resist the urge to probe the gap it left. My immediate mission however is to get through the next few hours until the anesthetic wears off without accidentally eating my tongue.

NEVER go for the root canal, the agony afterwards is unbelievable. In November I had three courses of antibiotics rather than root canal work due to my absolute fear of needles, never had an injection at the dentist despite lots of fillings. The pills didn’t work and there was no other way but the root canal, I braved the injection eventually when the pain got too much without and for 45 minutes I laid rigid in the chair weeping!!! Afterwards I was comforted by my mum (an essential part of the dentist experience for me) and I felt as though I had a house brick stuck to my face. Two days later the pain was back and the credit card bill arrived which caused other major pains. I had more anitbiotics. Today I cannot touch the side of the tooth concerned and I regularly have to dig food remnants out of the side of it, too muc hinformation possibly. My moto is NEVER have the root canal. But I am too scared to go and have it taken out the current level of pain is bearable.

    Shhh… don’t tell Jeff.

That sounds horrific, I did have the injection for the tooth taken out, which was the most painful bit. I’m fine about needles (I even have to give injections in peoples bum now and again for my job), but the sight of it going into my mouth was unpleasant.

The gap in my teeth still feels very weird and I have already had a piece of ham and a bit of lettuce stuck down it. That side of my mouth is going to be pretty useless for chewing I think, and so if anything else goes wrong over there i’ll probably get them take out too. But if the other side needs something doing I’ll go for the root canal or i’ll end up only being able to eat soup.
