Kerry went for a pre return-to-work meeting with her boss today and left Amy, Evan and I home alone. The plan was fairly simple, wander down to the village to buy a dozen eggs. Walk home, then celebrate the death of a man I’m not convinced even existed by painting them in various gaudy colors.
That was the plan anyway, and for the most part it went well. I ended up trailing back up the hill with a lettuce, a sausage roll, a straw hat, a bag of sweets some glue, and a ham salad sandwich as well as the eggs – spending approximately £10 more than I had planned to. But that’s what happens when you put two individuals with zero impulse control like Amy and myself in a retail environment.
The real problem was Evan. He’s teething at the moment and has been transformed from a amiable happy go lucky baby to Oscar the Grouch. He complained bitterly throughout the entire day and refused to allow me to put him down for any period of time. It’s a good job Kerry got home when she did as I was just about to look up te telephone number for the adoption services.
Still, I have empathy for the little chap. For the past three weeks or so I’ve been suffering from toothache myself, and at times I’m sure Kerry has considered putting me up for adoption too. Hopefully things will be sorted out soon. I have an appointment with the dentist first thing tomorrow morning who is no doubt going to give me a hefty telling off for my 30 years of lackluster oral hygiene. She’s an NHS dentist though, so at least I won’t have to pay through my hind teeth for the reprimand.
