Lydia the chocolate-free lady

on Mar 10 in General by

Lydia Salmon never really knew her big brother Joseph. She was just a baby when three year old Joseph died.

He may not be here any longer, but Joseph is still a huge presence in her life. He’s still loved, talked about, and remembered by her and her family. He will always be with them.

As most people who read this blog know, after his death Josephs parents Neil and Rachael set up a charity in his name. The Joseph Salmon Trust provides financial support to those who have lost a child. Maybe to help with the cost of a funeral, or to allow the self employed a little time off work in order to grieve. It’s a good cause. A damn good cause.

For lent Lydia is giving up sweets and chocolate. That’s a pretty big thing to do for a six year old. Hell, it would be a pretty big thing to do for me too. She’s doing it in aid of her brother’s charity. Her parents tried to suggest other causes but she was adamant. This was for Joseph.

Her aim is to raise £50. But she deserves to raise so much more than that.

If you have a spare fiver hanging around the house why not head over to her Justgiving page and throw it in the bucket. And if you have a blog, twitter, or Facebook account why not suggest the people who follow you do the same.

    Thanks Dan!
The Salmon household will be a tricky place to be for the next six and a half weeks…Lydia asked this morning how many more sleeps until Easter, and was a little dismayed at the answer.
We have every faith that she will do it though and it’s lovely that she thought it would be good to raise some cash for the charity. As every thanks for all your support :-)

I have donated, I’m very impressed, I’m not sure my 6 year old would manage it!

Never mind the 6 year old, I couldn’t manage it…

    Bless her.

There’s something about the Joseph Salmon Trust that has an irresistable pull on my wallet.

Hi there, I’m a new reader coming over from Nick’s journal.

I think the Joseph Salmon Trust is an awesome idea.

My son was killed 3 years ago and thanks to his wonderful friends along with our friends and families..there was enough money raised over 3 days to pay bills for 6 months so that I did not have the pressure of returning to work along with grief and court.

The kindness and generosity by those I knew and didn’t know is something I will never forget..nor the love and admiration that was overflowing for my son.

I will be donating to this cause and good on Lydia!

    Becca
