You can’t take her anywhere
on Jan 09 in General by DanAmy and I went to Toys R Us to spend some of her Christmas money today. After much deliberation we settled on a new doll. Up until recently I would have discouraged this choice as she had a large stockpile of dolls of all sizes. However a series of unfortunate events (some of them involving dog urine) has resulted in quite a few of these having to be thrown away and she now has a gap in her portfolio.
After the toy shop we headed over the road to McDonalds for lunch. According to the guidance on the meal’s packaging I consumed 120% of my recommended calories for that day; so how come I was hungry again half an hour later? Amy had a happy meal but disappointingly got the same toy as she did last time we went a couple of months ago. She didn’t mind too much as she was busily looking after her new doll.
“Daddy, I’m just going to feed baby” she told me.
I uh-huhed my acknowledgment and, without missing a beat, she hitched up her t-shirt and started breast feeding her doll in the middle of the restaurant. Needless to say I made her cover herself up. I have many sympathies towards the viewpoints of the la leche league, but I do have my limits.

Some U.S.parents might be outraged, shocked, and devastated by seeing your daughter “breastfeed” but I think think it’s cute as hell. Glad you made her cover up though:-) It’s really fascinating how much the views on breastfeeding differs depending on what country you’re in.
Take care

Honestly I must say good for your little girl. (And I’m an American!) Actually I’m purposefully teaching my kids to breastfeed their dolls and am seriously considering throwing out all dolly-sized bottles. After all, bottle feeding is a medical intervention, is it not? Why should we teach it as the most obvious choice to feed a baby?
But then again, I’m just an old hippie in soccer-mom clothing. Ignore everything I say or do. Most everyone else does. Not least of all my children. :)
