(Phone rings. Dan wades through the household clutter to answer it)
“Hello?”
“Hi, it’s Mum. I just wanted to let you know that I’m not going to be able to give you a lift to the airport in March”
“That’s no problem, we can find another way to get there. How come you can’t do it?”
“I’m going to be on safari in Kenya, I just booked it today”
“What?! I thought you were going horse trekking in Mongolia?”
“Oh I’m doing that as well, but that’s in June and I wanted something sooner to look forward to when I get back from my trip to Malta next week”

that is priceless
My parents are similar although don’t travel to such farflung countries – my Dad went off to Tenerife for two weeks in December – arrived back in the UK on the 22nd and flew off to Germany on the 23rd… at the end of this month he’s off to Austria ski-ing and then I’m sure there’ll be somewhere else to go.
Last year he aimed to travel abroad at least once in each month… and I think he managed it!
I’ve got travel envy – even you have more holidays planned than us – at the moment – the Tesco travel vouchers are burning a hole in my bedside drawer and of course we will need a break to get over the move.
Tell me grandma, has your tan from Mauritius faded yet?
