My quest to take over the internet has his a small stumbling block. Apparently there are a finite number of hours in the day and you can’t spend all of them tinkering with the internet. It’s so unfair!
However I have come up with a cunning plan. I shall co-opt others into my quest. If I can’t conquer the net single handedly I shall recruit a mighty army of minions to do so for me.
So, introducing my first minion:
My wife Kerry has just started a blog: Cloud of Starlings. And it’s good. Bloody good. A little TOO good to be honest.
It’s a photo blog. She’s just started Project 365 again (where you have to take a photo every single day of the year), but she’s doing it with a twist – she’s only taking photos with her iphone.
I’ve posted previously about her decision to accept the flaws of the notoriously crappy iPhone camera and use it to her artistic advantage. So here’s the evidence of her immense photographic talent:

12/365 And the crowd goes wild

20/365 Your face pressed up against the glass
I am very proud of my wife.
Go visit Cloud of Starlings, comment, and subscribe.
Of course I haven’t been resting on my laurels myself. Although most of my work has been going on behind the scenes of Hadrian’s Walk, and so isn’t really available for public viewing as yet (if you are one of the walkers however, make sure you take a look at the various bits and bobs waiting for you on Google Wave).
Of course I’ve always got time for Lee, my antipodean pop culture guru.
Over on the Midnight Movie Club podcast this week Lee and I were joined by Jeff from the blog Caddickisms to discuss the 1982 movie Tron.
It’s staggering when you stop and think about it how the internet has enabled three geeks from three separate continents to come together to talk crap for their own amusement. Al Gore must be incredibly proud.
See the original post here, or hopefully you’ll be able to listen to it below:

When I saw this link on Twitter, I thought it read ‘…calling her a moron is a good idea’. Which clearly it wouldn’t have been. Nor would it have been true. Blimey, what fantastic pictures. I don’t have an iPhone, which is just as well because I’d likely be a bit depressed at the dross I’d manage to create with it. Particularly like And The Crowd Goes Wild – all kind of womblike, should anyone want to hold a party in there!
@angelsandurchinsblog, she’s a tallented woman alright.
And thanks for mentioning her on your blog:)
@angelsandurchinsblog,
He knows it’s not worth calling me a moron, especially in public. Thanks for the comment and the mention on your blog :)
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
Proud of Kerry, you should be. She is single handedly (or does she use both to take pictures) convincing me to switch to the iPhoneage.
Her only flaw is to be terminally attracted to you. Even her cloud obsession is ace.
.-= SingleParentDad´s last blog ..What sort of man are you? =-.
@SingleParentDad, I’m not sure “attracted” is the correct word. Maybe “tolerant”
@Dan, Ooooooh yeeeaaah. Sexual tolerance. It’s a beautiful disturbing thang.
@SingleParentDad, ta matey, I’ve done a complete 180 on the iphone’s camera on new year’s day when I had a trawl on flickr. Now I’m just having fun.
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
I particularly like the one with the lamps. Is she using any particular software?
.-= Dad Who Writes´s last blog ..The ‘F’ word =-.
@Dad Who Writes, she has a policy of only processing in-phone. She does use a few apps, i’m sure she’ll comment here what they are.
@Dad Who Writes, I was quite chuffed with that one too :)
I’ve been using a variety of iphone applications and I tag my photos in flickr with the details:
hipstamatic – the top 3 here were taken with that,
gorrilacam which lets you touch the screen anyway to take the photo (free),
camerabag – variety of preset styles, cinema and colorcross my faves
tilt shift generator – great fun
shakeit photo – polaroid maker
mill colours (free) – can adjust lift/gamma/gain/saturation
photogene – crop, adjust levels, sharpen, frames etc
mobile photos – use this to upload but I’ve just got flickr’s free app to see what that’s like
I’ve bought a few more but you can’t seem to adjust their effects so not really bothered with them.
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
@Kerry, Thanks – I’ll have to check some of those out. Weirdly, I haven’t played with any of the iPhone photo apps yet…
@Dad Who Writes, because the camera was the least interesting thing on there! Forgot one – lo-mob but not used it much
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..Let’s get this party started (22/265) =-.
Truly stunning photos. Now I see where all the talent in your family is.
.-= Erin´s last blog ..We’ll call ourselves The Migraines =-.
@Erin, how dare you madam. Have you not heard me on the ukulele??
@Erin, heh heh heh, thank you
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
I already subscribed to Kerry’s blog :)
Her pictures ar brilliant!
:)
.-= Insomniac Mummy´s last blog ..Hot or not? =-.
@Insomniac Mummy, I saw you had done :)
@Insomniac Mummy, one of the first :) And Helen’s known me 24 (?) years so she’s obliged
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
what gorgeous photos. didn’t realise they were all with an iphone, that is talented!
.-= Heather´s last blog ..Lose Your Blues =-.
@Heather, yes, she’s got a great eye for such things. I’m tempted to have a go myself, but I’d just show myself up.
@Heather, Thanks Heather, as I’ve mentioned above, I’ve embraced its rubbishness and so it means I don’t expect too much and therefore just have fun
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
All that with a cameraphone? Nice work. I’ve added to my bloglist.
.-= Rol´s last blog ..Meme Park Ride =-.
@Rol, a notoriously shit cameraphone too – although granted one with a few processing apps.
Quite talented is that lass.
.-= Martin´s last blog ..Pool party =-.
@Martin, Aye.
@Martin, we’ll see
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
Those are some great photographs. I really like the one with the foggy walking path.
.-= Mocha Dad´s last blog ..The Mystery Reader =-.
@Mocha Dad, thanks, I dragged a friend out at lunchtime on a mission but it was freezing
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
What beautiful photos!
She is a real artist.
I wish I had an eye like that.
.-= Al´s last blog ..Ronnie =-.
@Al, Thanks Al
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
Your wife’s photos are awesome. I’m going over there now. Byeeeee.
.-= DJ Kirkby´s last blog ..Dodgy flying =-.
@DJ Kirkby, yay – see you there!
.-= Kerry´s last blog ..I’m not sure calling her a minion is the best idea, but… =-.
I thought about giving my Photo365 a twist like that. But I think I should start smaller and just worry about getting the photos taken for now, regardless of the camera. I will get through!
.-= kapgar´s last blog ..Out soaked in 95th Street beer… =-.
@kapgar, I’ve tried 365 once – but I got frustrated by it because I just couldn’t take my camera with me most of the time. However I never really thought to use the phone camera as part of my arsenal.
i think the drawback to the iphone camera however will be that it doesn’t really do wider shots very well.
you’re going all empirean again, you Brits.
.-= Arjan´s last blog ..Micmacs à tire la larigot =-.
@Arjan, that made me laugh out loud :)
I was listenign to a program today about how the dutch ruined Mauritius, so you lot aren’t blameless
@Dan, we did our share in pillaging the world I guess.
.-= Arjan´s last blog ..Micmacs à tire la larigot =-.
I love the Lunchtime Fog photograph, it reminds me of the last scene from The Third Man, beautiful. Er… I’ll go and post this on your wife’s blog now!
@Liz (LivingwithKids), yes, i liked that one too. although it reminded me of the exorcist poster, so I’m obviously not as cultured as you :)
I have enjoyed your blog..varied and dynamic
.-= john´s last blog ..End of An Era =-.
@john, thank you. I’ve just headed over to yours and can say the same about you. I’m jealous of your pigs.
Amazing pics Kerry. And I mean that sincerely. Very well done.
