Daniel-san
on Sep 29 in General by DanWe’re back from our weekend in the lakes. Did I find my mojo? I’m not sure, but if I didn’t I certainly came close.
We stayed in Windermere, which is far from my favourite place in Cumbria – the main reason for which is that it’s constantly heaving with tourists. How dare people wish to holiday where I am holidaying?! It’s a bloody disgrace! However our accommodation was free (won in a raffle) and so it’s probably best not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Anyway, we didn’t end up spending much time in the town and the room was nice, so ultimately it didn’t really matter where the hotel was situated.
I won’t go into a blow by blow account of our weekend. Suffice to say that we did a little bit of walking, a little bit of sitting on boats, and a little bit of buying unnecessary plastic objects from the Lakeland shop. Kerry also took some rather nice photos too.
I also had a bit of a resurgence of motivation to lose weight. For the past six months or so I’ve been struggling to scrape up the commitment to lose the final 30lb I need to get rid of to get to my target weight. This sounds crazy considering prior to that I managed to lose 70lb in just nine months without much bother.
I’ve come to realise over the last 12 months that dieting is all about state of mind. You need to train yourself to just accept that you are just not someone who eats chocolate, pizza, and deep fried mars bars. Limiting myself to a set number of “sins” a day doesn’t work for me; because once I pop I just can’t stop.
So today is the first day of phase two of Operation Blubber Loss. I am officially dieting again. And this time, in an effort to shame/motivate myself to keep with the program I’m going to publish a weekly update of my progress. Yes it will be boring, yes it will be monotonous; but in the words of Lesley gore- it’s my blog and I’ll post drivel if I want to.
So here goes.
This morning after I went to the toilet, before I ate something, and whilst I was holding twenty two helium balloons and standing on my tiptoes my weight was:
17 stone 3lb (or 241lb)
Yes yes, I’m a bloater. But remember I used to be 22 stone (308lb)
Let the not eating as much as I normally do commence!

You go, Dan. In fact, if you hit your target weight you’ll be able to carry me along the wall just to remind yourself what it feels like to be your old weight. And that’ll also mean that I might stand a chance of getting from one end of the wall to the other

@Dad Who Writes, I walked the 84 mile dales way at 22 stone, so if I could do it then I can’t see why I couldn’t carry you this time.
I absolutely love that first photo. Pure genius and if ever they’re looking to remake that iconic movie . . .
Wax on, wax off.
.-= Tara@Sticky Fingers´s last blog ..Can you make real friends through blogging? =-.
@Tara@Sticky Fingers, I knew that the Karate Kid had been on TV the moment I walked into school as every bugger was calling me Daniel-san.
Beats “Oi dickhead” I suppose.
Great photos, the lake district is fantastic and it’s nice to see it when the sun is shining.
Will be routing for you on the weight loss.

@fluffypinkduck, She took some better ones than that, but I’ll leave it to her to blog them at a later date.
I wondered why you didnt want those jaffa cakes last night.
.-= Sam´s last blog ..Random Review: District 9 =-.
@Sam, I just didn’t want to take away your jaffa cakes AND your blood bowl dignity.
Haha awesome picture!
Wise words, Daniel-san, I’ll keep that in mind. No really, I’ve levelled out too (2 stones down, 2 to go) and it’s not the food that’s the problem really, I like the diet food, it’s me.
Anyway, go for it :D

was Dan(iel) San also making strange noises?
As for weight..somehow I always end up doing my groceryshopping just before I need to have my dinner..which always ends up me buying some kind of fat snack. Because the idiotic sport I do I don’t see everything back on my tummy..but I try to switch snacks for fruit..so buying a banana instead of a marsbar…it’s really hard, but I left the large chocolate letters (a P and or S…Sinterklaas has already arrived in stores) in the store.

@Arjan, never shop hungry. That’s the golden rule. Problem is I’m always hungry.
You can really deep fry a Mars Bar? What about Snickers?
@Ed, oh yes. although I’ve never tried them.
Apparently they are very good. You coat the bar in batter and then pop them in the deep fat frier. the chocolate on the outside melts and merges with the batter apparently.
Okay, I need to know what your healthy snacks are.
.-= Erin´s last blog ..This post was not paid for by the mentioned brand. Although I’d be happy to take retroactive compensation if they’re offering. =-.
@Erin, In full diet mode I eat a lot of satsumas.
I eat a hell of a lot of cous cous too, and baked beans, mushrooms and eggs.
Pasta and sauce with quorn mince.
anything with no fat in basically.
I’m the same. Not good at limiting snacky sins, so I have also rid them all together.
About a month in now, and the cravings have seriously subsided. I will join you in shaming myself if it helps, and – as I know you are a lover (x2) – I have a spreadsheet I can share with you.
.-= SingleParentDad´s last blog ..Learning (to be more) cursive =-.
@SingleParentDad, yes the cravings do go if you don’t actually have anything naugty for a while. That’s why I think it’s best to go cold turkey – you’re not topping up your desire for stuff every three seconds.
And a challenge is in the post to you sir.
I’ve dropped about half a stone in a month or two and I too have levelled out. My swimming spree was put on hold by an ear infection (why do they let diseased children use my swimming pool) but I shall be starting again tomorrow. I ought to get up early and swim a mile before work each morning, but my bed is a more hospitable place than outdoors Fife at 7am…
I’m planning a brief jaunt to Oban in a fortnight. Might get a hill
climb in, although I suspect it’ll mostly just be gentle meanderings to get me used to walking more than along the corridor to colleagues’ offices and the staff room.
@Oli, Dave and I will be doing the yorkshire three peaks at roughly the same time. I think I prefer your walk though.

OMG you HAD to take that photo!
I almost want to photoshop myself onto the other pole…
@Lee Sargent, now that’s a photo i’d like to see.
.-= Dan´s last blog ..Daniel-san =-.
Uh… it’s a little known fact there Nom that stones are a measurement of mass and not weight. Therefore, you would still weigh 17 stones on the moon but only 40 lbs in weight.
.-= Jeff´s last blog ..A PSA about PPA =-.
@Jeff, I almost believed you for a moment there.
I must be losing my grip.
.-= Dan´s last blog ..Daniel-san =-.
@Dan, I didn’t make that up… it’s a fact. So yes, you have lost your grip.
.-= Jeff´s last blog ..Financial freedom at last! =-.
Good luck.
I’ve been vaguely thinking about doing something about my babyweight (well, my son’s only 22 months, you can’t move too quickly on these things) and now that you and SPD are showing me the way maybe I can do it too.
Love your wife’s photo’s – I’m looking forward to seeing some more.
.-= Barbara´s last blog ..Flowers =-.
@Barbara, I’m considering setting up some sort of league table for weight loss. I’m sure it would motivate a few people.
.-= Dan´s last blog ..Daniel-san =-.
Looking at that picture of you, you must be tall. Or full of muscle. Because you don’t look like 17 stones plus change.
I weighed 385 once. So I’m with you . . .
.-= tysdaddy´s last blog ..Two Friends =-.
@tysdaddy, I’ve never really looked as heavy as I am, which has been one of my downfalls really.
I so need to do the same – lost 2 stones from Jan to June and then it sort of tailed off. I need charts and diaries and stuff like that to keep me on track – it’s the wine that does me in most though.
@Mark, it’s difficult to motivate yourself once you stop isn’t it.
I love the first photo. That’s a classic mate. Oh and congratulations on losing so much weight. Good for you sir.
.-= Kevin Spencer´s last blog ..Red Dust =-.
@Kevin Spencer, the congratulations aren’t earnt really, as it’s been about six months since i lost anything. still, I haven’t really put anything on either, which is no bad thing.
Hiya Dan, love the pics, love the Lakes and love the fact you will be blogging about losing weight. That’s enough love from me. . .
@Linda, Ian (singleparentdad) and I are about to embark on a weight loss duel, so you’ll be hearing a lot more about it :)
I love the first picture and the Lake District.
That is all.
:)
