on Sep 06 in General by DanWhile flicking around the TV channels tonight we stumbled across the Antiques Roadshow on BBC 1.
There is something quintessentially Sunday evening about the Antiques Roadshow. It’s like Last of the Summer Wine and Midsommer Murders. Although actually I’m pretty sure that Midsommer Murders was shown on a Saturday – but it’s clearly a Sunday show. Yet another example of ITV’s incompetence.
I have very fond memories of the Antiques Roadshow throughout my childhood. And have even fonder memories of watching it at the parental home of my first ever girlfriend. The end credits were always a cue to retire to her room in order to go through that age old adolescent ritual of “you would if you really liked me” (It’s true you know, teenage boys are all the same).
Joe, from the absolutely fantastic comedy duo Adam and Joe, did his own version of the theme tune for the program on their BBC Radio 6 Music show. It’s bloody marvelous. In fact I’d even go so far as to say it’s nearly as good as Adam and his Quantum of Solace theme tune. Nearly, but not quite. Check it out.

You’re right – it’s good, but nothing beats Quantum of Solace (‘I’d like a quantum of solace, but no more than a quantum, I know they do big bags of solace… but I don’t want’ em’ – genius!)
Am also now really upset because no-one ever used the ‘if you really liked me’ line in my teenage years. Still, I guess that’s all girls boarding schools for you…
It was catchy, and they even threw in a civil war reference. Nice. They were talking about our civil war right? You guys didn’t have one did you? lol.

They were filming AR at Leeds Town Hall last week, you could ring up the week before and arrange transport for your old wardrobes and other such stuff that won’t fit into a Morrisons bag.
It destroyed a lifelong vision I have had of people trying to get their grannys sideboard on the bus only to find out later that its worthless and the venue being left with hundreds of similar items of large furniture when people can’t be bothered paying double fare on the way home.

it’s a wonder that we come up with any original programming here at all in the states. I often click through to BBC America to try to guess what the next show the US Networks will steal.
