My name's Dan and I live near Huddersfield in the North of England. I’m a 34 years old part time stay at home dad. @SingleParentDad, I’m going to ignore the smutty overtones that we’ve all come to expect from you and answer you straight.
You showed me the spot where they used to be, but I think you’d eaten them all by the time we came.
They look great. We’ve got some potatoes in our veggie patch but I have no idea when I should dig them up (did I mention this is my first attempt at growing anything, there’s a whole lot of green in the potato section but how do I know when they are ready?)
Congrats on the seventh heaven spot in top 100 bloggers. Well deserved, particularly as you do make me laugh a lot.

@Brit in Bosnia, When the potatoe plants start to flower they are ready to be dug up. The flowers won’t be anything spectacular though so you have to keep a relatively close eye on them. if in doubt have a root rond at their base to see if there are any big uns there.
and Thanks for the congratulations. I was a bit surprised I ranked so high up, but I’m guessing it might have something to do with a combination of being around for quite a while (and so building up lots of links) and my habit of answering each comment with another comment. I can’t see me being particularly “influential” really.
Still, it’s nice to be listed.
nothing tastes better than home grown, home cooked food! Those are great looking taters! and what a way to show off the size, an old advertising trick.. small hands make aproduct look bigger :)
PS: thanks for the long list of blogs you follow.. they have kept me entertained during my days at work. I work in transportation, mostly autoparts.. if you haven’t heard, our auto industry is suffering..- work here is dreadfully slow
@Amanda Jane, glad to be of service. and at least your country still has an auto industry. Ours died in the 80s.
I don’t have a garden so I’ll have to buy them at the supermarket I guess…

Oh well done! They look wonderful! I bet the children loved picking something that you can cook. I remember growing potatoes at infant school (a squillion years ago) and we cooked and ate them. I was so thrilled by the whole thing.

@Penelope, the kids were pretty excited about picking them, but fairly blase about cooking and eating them. If it doesn’t have any e numbers in it’s hard to stir there interest in fod at the moment.
I just know Evan’s next move after that first shot was to rub his hands in his face.

@James (SeattleDad), it certainly is. although to be honest i’m using most of it at the moment for a self invented special hair tonic to promote luxurious follicle growth.
I remember harvesting the spuds from my Dad’s garden when we were nippers. Glad to see some British traditions haven’t altered ;-)

@Kevin Spencer, there’s nothing quite like lifting up the soil to find them just lying there ready to be picked up. Great stuff.
i planted spud seeds on the 01/07/09,they started to come through
17th,the ground i planted in was coverd in green3 leaf weeds
i,used vedone lawn weed killer,which says only kills weeds not any thing else.i have notice that most of the spud plant are still growing,but some plants seem to have gone back,will they come on ,is the other plants alright to let them grow on
i also have supds growing in another area they are flowering are thy ready to left.
@mo, I imagine the weed killer wouldn’t have done the spuds any good. When it says “only kills weeds” it probably just means “doesn’t kill grass”. To be honest I wouldn’t eat potatoes that have had weedkiller on them.
