Know your walkers: Oli

This is Oli.

Oli

Oli was a founder member of the Dales Walk last year. He also helped plan the thing, raised a hell of a lot of money, and created the walk’s logos that you can still occasionally see littering the internet today.

Oli is also a confirmed member of Team Ocelot for next years Hadrian’s Walk, and let me tell you we’re extremely lucky to have a man of such enthusiasm and joviality along with us (plus his mum really knows how to shake a charity tin).

However there is one thing that worries me about Oli. Take a look at what he’s been doing over the past couple of months:

I’ve emailed him a couple of times to ask exactly why he’s built a medieval siege engine in his back garden, but have yet to receive any reply. My only conciliation is that he lives in Scotland, and is therefore too far away from my house for me to worry about big rocks being launched through my bathroom window whilst I’m on the bog.

I suppose the fact he lives in Scotland is an explanation in itself. An Englishman in a foreign land has to defend himself somehow I’m afraid, and if he can perhaps convert the machine to fire haggis and deep friend mars bars into a neighboring garden then maybe he can distract the marauding Scots long enough to make a speedy getaway.

Anyhow, whatever the reason for it’s creation, you have to admit that Oli’s trebuchet is a thing of beauty and I applaud his genius. I’m even tempted to build my own siege engine and challenge him to a life sized game of crossbows and catapults.
