The big time baby

A week or so I got an email from the very nice people over at Think Parents asking me if I would be interested in reviewing new Disney Blu Ray movie releases here on the blog.

What’s more, seeing as though I didn’t actually have a Blu-Ray player they offered to give me one for free.

Blimey!

For years I’ve envied my blogging brethren over the seas for their lucrative PR contacts and their steady stream of books and toys for review. But no longer. Now I too am one of the big boys. In your face Jo Beaufoix! In your face SingleParentDad! Who’s the king of the British parent bloggers now eh? Not you, you losers! L-o-s-e-r-s! L-o-s-e-r-s!

What…? Oh. They got offered the same thing too? Forget I said anything.

Anyhow, after around 3 seconds of consideration I agreed and am now an official Disney Blu-Ray Ambassador (inset obligatory Ferrero Rocher gag here).

I’m sure NY Watchdog will be very disappointed in me, but I did ensure that it is understood that all my reviews will be 100% honest, and if I don’t like a film I’ll say so. After all, proper film critics get free preview screenings and go on junkets so it’s not like I’m alone in my freebee grasping.

And anyway, I’m going to stick Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, and other non-Disney stickers on the player in a futile gesture of pathetic rebellion (although don’t tell Think Parents about that or they might take the Blu-Ray player off me. And that would be a disaster as it’s bloody fantastic.)

I’ve yet to receive any Blu-Ray discs to review, but there was note from the postman this morning saying that he had a package that was too big to cram through my letterbox, so I’m hopefull something will be here shortly. I just wanted to get all the disclosures and justifications out of the way so I can get on with the proper reviewing without muddying the waters too much.

And gloat. I wanted to gloat a bit too.

It is all very exciting. Maybe this is the beginning of the big leagues for me. In fact just this morning I received a very pleasant email from a lovely man in Nigeria offering me a generous cut of a business deal he’s got going. My reputation as a man who can get things done is obviously getting around. I might even hand my notice in at work tomorrow and concentrate on blogging full time.

If you are in the UK and have a parenting aspect to your blog why don’t you go over to the Think Parent website and register with them. They really are very nice people and you never know what might come out of it.

I wonder if there’s any company out there that wants to have a blogger like me review, say, the effectiveness of $1 million in cash. I’d be happy to give the honest truth about it.

Huh? Yeah, I have trouble keeping up with all the requests. And the parties! Oh, I have to tell you all about the parties some day. Am just too busy filtering through all these requests to do it now….

Anyway, congrats D. Enjoy that Blu-Ray.

Will a 20 year old and a 17 year old count as “children” any more, after all, I am still a “parent” and whilst my advice at raising 5 year old may be up to 15 years out of date (do they still collect Pogs and worship The Spice Girls these days), they could take my more modern-day advice on dealing with University assignment tantrums and getting them both into Leeds for college/Uni before 9am whilst using all the secret shortcuts, and host them in a “cut out and keep for 15 years” sort of feature.
