Our 60 odd mile long hike on the Cumbria Way is coming up fast. It’s only five weeks away to be precise, and so I thought I’d better start dragging my carcass off the couch and doing a little preparation for it. Especially since I put on 7lb on our recent trip Wisconsin (although every single one of those grease ridden pounds was worth it for the glorious gluttony I chose to indulge in).
I’ve been walking every single day since I got back. Granted it’s sometimes just been a 20 minute stroll down to the village, but I’ve kept the rhythm going and that’s been the main thing. I’ve also been trying to include a few hills on my routes as I’ve looked at the map of the Cumbria way and some of those contour lines look alarmingly close together.
Today the various logistics of childcare arrangements meant that that the only time I was able to squeeze in a walk was at 6am this morning. As hard as it was crawling out of bed when my alarm went off I’m glad I did as the countryside was both beautiful and peaceful. The mist clinging to the canal was particularly stunning and I cursed myself that I hadn’t brought the posh camera with me. I did manage to get a shot using my phone camera however:
I think I might try for an early morning walk again tomorrow.
In addition to my solo training efforts a few of us are planning to get together in a couple of weeks and re-walking the first leg of the Dales Way, all 17 miles of it. I’ll be interested to find out if my recent weight loss makes any easier this time round. I’m hoping it does as the Cumbria Way is a little more challenging than the Dales Way was and so I’ll need every advantage I can get.

Glorious image, and I’m impressed at your early start. I keep thinking I might be tempted to get up early, but I never get round to changing my alarm. 07:50 is fine for me.
Great picture. I was trying to work out exactly where that is… but then I gave up.

One thing I certainly miss about England are those early morning fog bound walks with my dog just as the sun is coming up. Ahhhh, nostalgia.

some of my most beautiful photo’s have been taken with my cameraphone, sometimes a quick snapshot is just enough.
At the moment I’m running 3 times a week (2 miles) but sometimes the rest of life forces me to get up darn early too..

Great picture – I had a trip to make to Airdrie yesterday and so set off at 6am, the route up the A65 to the M6 near Kendall was stunning, just stunning in the early morning mist, complemented by the blackest sky you’ve ever seen hovvering over the Dumfries hills an hour later.
I love this country for its moorlands, we might not have big mountains but we have hills and some great weather to enhance them.
Good luck on your Cumbria Way walk by the way…
Only a few weeks until the PR starts on my Coast to Coast bike ride in July, gosh did I let that plug slip out ;)
