Houston we have a chicken

IMG_5720

I’m a dad! Three chicks hatched so far, two yellow ones and a black one (or two Light Sussex and a Cuckoo Maran to give them their official titles). Hopefully by the morning there will be even more.

We’re leaving them in the incubator for a while to dry out and fluff up, and then they go into the brooder where we’ll be able to get some better photos of them without having to shoot through a tiny foggy window.

It’s all very exciting indeed!

if you’ll leave them in long enough you can eat them directly, I hear they’re quite tasty ;)

Congrats, “dad” but she doesn’t look a thing like you! Isn’t it amazing how accurate the hatching is – 21 days on the nose. Compare that to figuring and waiting and re-figuring the due date / arrivals of your REAL babies.

Jeff – Felt like ages to me, but then it was me that was turning them three times a day.

Jeff S – Me or the chick?

Holmes – Thank you, I shall be passing round cigars later.

Avitable – Actually, I think there is technically more chicken meat in a day old chick than a Mc Donalds McNugget.

People in the Sun – Yup, apart from the black one anyway.

    Cami – Thanks:)

Penelope – Yes, it makes you feel like there is something in the air doesn’t it.

Arjan – I’ve popped them under the grill on your advice.

Oli – Indeed Woo, as you say, hoo

Lise – Actually i put them in on a monday evening, so they are a day early. I’m hoping some of the other eggs are going to come at the appropriate time.

    That’s awesome!

So when do you start feeding them?

They definitely did better than my mail order Sea Monkeys.
