Some crappy Moonraking photos
on Feb 23 in General by DanNeither Kerry or I managed to get any decent photos of the Moonraking festival this year. Mainly because as part of the procession we were jigging around too much to get a steady shot.
The kids did really well, walking the mile long route without complaint or tantrum. We started off in the middle of the procession, but due to Evan’s frequent diversions and escape attempts gradually fell towards the back. We nipped off home before the very end in order to avoid the firework display, but we all felt like we’d taken a part in the coming together of the village.
Here are some of the slightly less blurry photos. None of them convey how lovely 200 odd home made lanterns look winding their way through the village on a cold February evening, but there is always next year.

Looks smashing!
Wicked.
Mind, if you take out that first star in your second photo, that group ahead could be interpreted as an angry mob.

I’m still a little confused over the celebration – do you also have a Thunderball festival?

At the end of the procession do you get to warm yourselves at a nice witch burning? Or is this the one where you storm the castle where the mad scientist lives?
It’s the thought that counts, but we’re eagerly awaiting decent photo’s next year of course :P
Oh and you still need to update the ‘Who am I’ -age part ;)

That is actually a wee bit scary.
The whole lantern procession thing would scare the bejesus out of me.

Couldn’t they have moved the cars from the roadside?
Nice bit of artistic blur going on.

That looks gorgeous. I bet the kiddies loved it. And their Mummy and Daddy too.

Looks like brilliant fun, and very pretty!
Saw this and started to wonder if the uke was indeed taking over: http://blogs.channel4.com/snowblog/2009/02/20/learning-to-love-the-ukulele/
Oli – It was pretty impressive, but the photos don’t do it justice.
SingleParentDad – We heard there was a Brummie in the area and we al;l cried out for blood.
Lee – I am having to physically restrain myself from discussing Pussy Galore right now.
JJ Daddy O – I’m finding all this witch burning talk to be very offensive. I’ll have you know we haven’t burnt any witches in our village for at least three years!
Arjan – The worst thing was that there was a £25 prize for the best picture this year :(
Xbox -Ah but you’re Irish. I hear that fire is still quite a new invention for you.
Gail – Move the cars? But that would mean having to walk to your house!!
VegasDad – It was fun, but a little cold.
Jo – The kids did like it, and I think they will continue to appreciate it more and more as they get older too.
Catherine – The uke will one day conquer the entire planet. Trust me.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA – it always comes down to Pussy Galore doesn’t it…
