on Feb 04 in General by DanFor the last few days I’ve been in the mood to smash something. I’ve had that tension in my arms, that aching in my muscles that can only be expelled by explosive physical exertion.
Last week I was without internet for five days. There was a time that I would liken this to losing a limb. But I found it strangely liberating. I have become a slave to my email, a prisoner to google reader. The blog is slowly sliding from positive to negative; from joy to chore. I started it as a chronicle of my life as a parent; but now it just seems like it distracts me from my role as a husband and father.
I’m not burning any bridges here. Like most things, it will probably all seem better in the morning. I’m certainly not attempting to illicit a bunch of “please don’t go” comments. But I just wanted to throw something up here just to say things might go a little quiet round here. To say I’m not dead, but I might be hibernating.
For the last few days I’ve been in the mood to smash something. i just need to make sure it’s the right thing I smash.
*update in the cold light of morning*
I sort of regret posting this now. I was in a particularly maudlin mood last night and probably should have slept on it. Now I look like a overly dramatic teenager petulantly flapping his arms about. I’d delete this, but google reader has already captured it for posterity.
I’m not quitting. But I am going to post less.

Good luck in finding what it is you need to smash.

It’s a fine line between technology enhancing our lives and sucking the life out of it. Thing is, generally everyone else is so caught up too that they won’t notice the hibernation.
Take a few deep breaths of fresh air and post again when you really want to do it, not when you feel like you have to.

Go with your gut, however small it might be getting these days. Your gut won’t lie to you.
We’ll enjoy your posts even if they only show up once a month.

Please please, whatever you choose to smash, let it not be the ukulele!

have a go at running again..or buy a punching bag. Sometimes it’s good to release some energy.
Posting less isn’t a problem of course..I have great respect for people who can find the time/energy/content to post a decent post 5 times a week but I never found time/energy/content for those amounts..so I post when I got something to post :)
I’m also a slave to the reader..so I’ll be watching the feed whenever it lights up

I think if you’ve been blogging a while you invariably come to a point where you feel that a change to posting habits is required. Sure there are bloggers who post every day. There are some that post multiple times per day. And there are those that just post whenever they feel like it. Twice a week, maybe three times tops. And you know what, it’s all good.
I’m a big believer in posting at whatever frequency you’re comfortable with. If the blog is becoming a chore, seems forced, and isn’t fun anymore, that’s a sign that change is needed. I certainly don’t post as often as I used to. And I’m far happier for it actually.
I totally don’t know where I was going with this. Good lord, ramble much?

You know, a grumpy Dan just isn’t right. Something is wrong with the world when that happens.

Relax. Take a snow day.
I get like that sometimes and give myslf a good talking to because blogging isn’t really THAT important in the scheme of things. You like to think that all your followers would miss you like crazy, but they don’t. OK so they might miss you for a few days but another blog will eventually take your place. Fickle people these bloggers.
However, there is the pang of guilt brought about by the thought that maybe just one person might be waiting for your daily offering. Someone alone in a hut in Outer Mongolia, so you post, just for them, to brighten their day a little, and you feel it was all worthwhile…….
Well that’s how it is for me anyway.

I do believe the ‘young people’ refer to maudling moods as coming over ‘all emo’ and in order to fully effect the look you need to staple your hand to your forehead and adopt a permanent ‘woe is me’ look ;-)
Belated Happy Birthday – I’m very envious of your impending chicken fatherhood.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me and Mr Pops this weekend and that our ‘knot tying’ goes as smoothly as possible.
Posting like that keeps it real. Nothing to regret.
And it’s good to question why we are (still) doing something. I know it’s not blog-related, but I haven’t eaten meat since 1982 and every now and then I question whether it is still the right choice. So far the answer has always been “yes”, though I did start eating fish again about 10 years ago.
Of course it would be much easier if someone would just get me drunk and feed me bacon sandwiches.

I’m so with you, man. Our friend Peep sent me here after I wrote a post about why I don’t feel like I have anything to offer the ‘net right now. Life can be depressing sometimes and why spread the depression, you know? I know you’ve resolved this now and I probably have, too, within myself, but sometimes, it’s just a drag to feel beholden to a blog.

Yup. You will do what you want to do for whatever reasons you want to do it. You don’t answer to us. Just be you, if it’s here then all the better for us, if it’s in 3-D land, then boo-hoo for us. No worries.
